I'm not saying that Wes can't. But my observation is around the fact that KM got a lot out of that first group of players, who all pretty much played beyond the levels they had ever played at before and part of that is to do with who was playing with who.
Chappers and Wes, for me, had a real connection on the pitch (and to a degree Harry as well, as noted). So, expecting Wes to come in and play the way he did, at least initially, without those people around him, is likely a bit too much.
That's not to say he won't be able to perform again (though it's a really big injury to come back from). | |

Apols, I was being deliberately facetious. Just a bit tired of the harking back for players that are no longer here, or in Clarke's case were always considered someone we'd need to upgrade if we want to carry on our upwards trajectory

I can't wait either, but also I have my doubts sadly on his prospects here. Gut tells me he'll be 3rd choice and then his contract expires in the summer.

To be fair to Wes, he was one of the League One boys that didn't look out of place in the PL, but on the whole, I agree, this injury at his age is a nasty one to get, hopefully he can get back to his previous best, but the jury is out until we see him. |  |

Early on this season I noticed Egeli was hitting a few of those Chappers-esque round-the-corner balls in behind the full back for [not sure who - Hirst, Szmodics?] to run on to.
Not convinced that that pattern of play will work particularly well or rather particularly often for us as it's more of a counter attacking ploy, but maybe it still could do. Perhaps if Burns is back and Egeli is playing the central 10 role we might see some very similar interplay. I know it's very early days but I think I can see a lot of intelligence and quick learning in the way Egeli plays. Think we're in for some serious footy from him as this season goes on. |  |
