| Honours for the Lionesses. 12:20 - Dec 30 with 1192 views | Mercian | Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo recieved no award but Ella Toone was awarded an MBE. Kelly and Russo were crucial members of The England Squad but Toone was a bit part player. How is that fair? PS. Lando Norris recieved no award either. [Post edited 30 Dec 2025 12:21]

Kelly scored the winner in two finals. And is frankly a better player all round. Meanwhile Phil Spencer gets a gong for being a patron of St Mungos... Something he presumably has time and money for due to his wealth. I realise that celebs are more visible in their charity work than the average punter, but its time the system was given a thorough overhaul if it is to continue. There are probably hundreds of youth coaches across the country who have put far more of their own time into good football related work, despite having less of it to give, than any of them. And certainly more than Phil Spencer.... [Post edited 30 Dec 2025 14:36]

They do. The vast majority of honours go to people most of us won't know. We only hear about the ones the press want to tell us about. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/694929f072075a1d4a5089cd/NY26_Gov This is the full list for 2026.

Percentage wise, it is plainly far easier to get one if you are famous.

I don’t want to hear about famous people getting them. It shouldn’t be at all. They are already awarded very well for what they do without even more recognition. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

So because someone has money, the time they invest in charity work is not considered worthy of recognition - Phil Spencer could easily not bother, yet he does - not sure why you singled him out for criticism. If you feel that others deserve the award more, then nominate them here: https://www.gov.uk/honours/nominate-someone-in-the-uk

Didn't know triumphing over adversity was one of the criteria for a beiong awarded an honour. Good to know. No doubt he will get his OBE in the next round of gong-giving. Whether someone who does not pay his taxes in this country deserves one is another matter entirely.

Not what I said. I single him out because if he were not a wealthy well known person, he would not have got it, in all likelihood. Imo.

yes, it is all indicative of society's perceived obsession with celebs. How many travel shows, game shows, quiz shows etc on tv are rammed full of b celebs whose best days were years ago.
