How have Coventry scored so many goals 12:51 - Jan 4 with 737 viewsbournemouthblue

they seem so one dimensional

I know they were something like 12 goals ahead of their xG so confidence was high and everything seemed to be going in

I can only assume Thomas-Asante is very important to how they play

Had a purple patch where everything went in and they outperformed their Xg. It’s just levelling out now. They are a very good team but they aren’t 16 points better that everyone else, were never realistically going to maintain that.

Only realised the other day, but they have scored a huge number of set piece goals (21 of their 55 goals).

I think that teams have worked out how to limit that threat, and so suddenly games are much more in the balance.

Fingers crossed teams are working them out now they are starting to play them for a second time.

Their recent results are interesting, they are still picking up points but they haven't scored more than one in a game since the end of November. Their goals have also been well spread out through the team, similar to us in 23/24, so you can't say that they are overly reliant on one striker.

They have a lot of heading options I guess, they seem a fairly big side

Good suggestion re Thomas-Asante. He's a dynamic player and was in the best form of his life. TBF they remain clear of the league by a healthy margin for chances created through both live passing and set pieces, as well as shots and goals scored, so there must have been a sustained period when they looked more irresistible than recently. Would be terrific if this slowdown is the consequence of being "found out", rather than legs and minds in need of a short break.

Meanwhile Simms's goal was two yards from the corner! Justice served.

They have been highlighting their lack of depth today, which may also be catching up with them

They have been linked with Esse from Palace

I don't think so. As above, they're good on the attack, but vulnerable to the counter, and their confidence is a little lower now that they're not getting all the breaks. I still expect them to make 2nd, probably, but they won't coast home as it looked just a few weeks ago.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

A lot of people are saying they're like us two years agp. I'd argue that they're more us under Mick circa 15/15 - a well drilled, solid core with a smattering of quality playing to an established pattern that started to falter when lack of depth kicks in and/oir more sophisticated managers play them

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

In a curious way I'd rather the January window was cancelled this season. We're mostly clamouring for a striker, no obvious replacement for Nunez or Matusiwa, deepest pockets in the automatic hunt, and yet we have bountiful riches at our disposal when compared with the reserves of Coventry or Boro. The latter doesn't appear to have a fit CB available presently, in addition to no goals in four (cue a comfortable 4-0).

Esse's a name I know to be respected at this level but didn't see much of.

He'd seem a fairly useful recruit, half the league seems to be linked with Piroe also
