I’ve been trying to think of a reasonable option upfront- 18:55 - Jan 4 with 5358 viewsLibero

who would fit our style of play, would be a potential step up if he moved to Ipswich, has experience in the Premier League (scored 10 in a very poor relegated side), is a good character and has proven he knows where the net is at every level he’s played-

Elijah Adebayo - Luton Town

I think he’s had some injury issues this season? But he’d be a great addition to the squad IMO and would help give some more proven firepower to our forward line, a similar level to Hirst, if not- potentially better!

Played 39 last season and scored 5 in the championship. I know Luton struggled but I'm going to wind and hope we're aiming higher than him.

I ended up watching him quite a bit after Xmas last year and he was dreadful and I really mean dreadful. He was lazy, couldn’t control or head a ball. He did start to look like a footballer before his injury but he’s been out a long time.

I personally wouldn’t go near him.

they were a mess- I think 10 in the premier league the season before is a potentially more pertinent insight into his glass celling.

I can’t claim to have seen anything beyond highlights of him from last season, but saw plenty the season before and before that also!

Sounds a far cry from the player I’ve seen- will try and canvass some Luton supporters views…

Or a one-off lucky streak?

It's a no from me. Not agreeing much on players at the moment are we!

He was awfully ‘lucky’ a couple of seasons before that and got 16 in the championship, before a modest return of 7 in their promotion season- however he was playing a work horse role upfront to facilitate those behind him, not unlike Hirst does for us currently.

Nice to see a thread that actually mentions a specific name, but assume our sights are set higher.

Are we allowed more loans? Wouldn’t be surprised if we hijacked someone like Lankshear or Gelhert with a larger loan fee.

Not expecting a marquee signing but who knows.

I’m thinking we need a squad addition as frankly, no one that we’d target for the potential premier league squad will be available right now.

Do you have a player in mind that’s potentially available, knows the championship well and has scored ten goals in a poor side in the premier league?

I think we may revisit Marc Guiu from Chelsea, or even try to pry Troy Parrott from AZ Alkmaar

This in part is why I’m thinking of Adebayo- ticks a number of boxes and may well be available, but realistically speaking would be no more than a squad player if we were successful in getting promotion.

Most of the ‘marquee’ type signings upfront that we’d be interested in won’t be available over January.

That Emmanuel Dennis who was at Watford and had an equally hot scoring streak?

Wouldn't go for him either.

Biiiiiiig question marks over both of them in UK football I’d say.

Is that the same Emmanuel Dennis who scored 10 in his first season with Watford in like 2022, but ever since hasn’t got more than 4 goals a season in UK football?

Hardly seems comparable- but fair enough…

Think Guiu has played for 2 clubs already this season.

You can't terminate season long loans without agreement from both clubs and the player unless there is a January recall clause.

How much do you want to bet Oxford and Hull would both say no?

Big mobile No.9’s with championship / prem experience with a decent goal tally to boot are like rocking horse poop

Liam Delap - loan - almost impossible
Josh Sargent - very unlikely due to then lot crying again
Marc Guiu - loan
Divin mubama - loan
Latte-Lath - bug permanent signing
Dion Beljo - wild card from abroad

That’s my guess for this window….

Aye, Latte Lath is the only one you’ve named there that I’d put alongside Adebayo.

Others named either have no real goal scoring record to speak of or just aren’t realistic targets IMO.
Latte Lath probably isn’t realistic either, but is more so than most there with a goal scoring record.

If that’s the level of our scouting after 12 months of Prem money, I’d be seriously questioning where this club is heading.

Indeed and to add to that, he has big question marks over his credentials in English football and as a goal scorer more broadly- outside of scoring 10 in 17 for Spains U17’s half a decade ago, he’s never got going anywhere, including Barcelona B where he only managed 4 goals in 13 appearances.

Obviously a talented guy with potential, but Ivan Azon is a much better fit for that profile a player at Ipswich Town.
