The ones where you don't lose your place in the queue if you choose to be called back are the best. That way you are opting to torture yourself or not.

The people that did the work, including collection money owed (called Distraint), Inspectors were told they weren’t needed because ‘everyone is honest’. Call Centres, people facing enquiry centres (IRECs)? People will just have to wait or preferably use the internet. Public services? You get what you pay for. [Post edited 8 Jan 20:04]

I called that number, waited another 45 minutes only for them to tell me the previous number was the correct one. I wasn't very amused!

I have also faced a similar trauma, over many a tax year. I mean, when you finally get to the right department, usually you get great service, but, my goodness, the wait times are epic.

Also, like too many companies they don’t provide any email contact details. Was chasing a parcel, made online purchase between Christmas & New Year delivery within 2-3 days. Then receive a correction 5-7 days so guessed coming from China or somewhere. Royal Mail tracker has said, for last week, waiting to receive package from seller. Seller says it has been cleared by customs and awaiting Royal Mail collection since last week. I also receive an unsolicited phone call today from Halfords Customer Support, guy was talking nonsense thought he was in India or Philippines but the accent was wrong, turned out he was calling from Africa.
