I don't think we have the same amount of business to do for incoming as we have in previous seasons.
I would imagine that the kind of player(s) we may be going after are hopefully players on the fringe of their squads in their respective leagues, and so will require those clubs to bring in replacements before releasing for us to sign. |  | | |

Last season we'd signed Godfrey by this point and the year before we had Sarmiento and Travis through the door by now, so i don't think it's necessarily the case we don't get our business done early
I think it's probably more that players who are in demand will be leaving it until the last minute to weigh up their options/drive better offers
edit: league 1 season we had Luongo, Hirst and Broadhead at the club by 10th Jan. So we definitely have been quick to do deals in recent years [Post edited 12 Jan 14:17]

I certainly get that you can't force players through the door and you need to get the right ones, but it's worth pointing out that if we didn't get a striker say until the 1/2nd Feb, then it's another 5 league matches gone by without a front man who knows where the net is. I'm including Portsmouth match on Feb 3rd. No ones coming in on the 1/2 and playing on the 3rd. They might as well make the window 2 weeks long, might concentrate thinking, and not just here of course! | | | |

True, and with a clinical striker I think we’d be seeing off teams more easily. But we are still the 2nd highest scorers and with a game in hand. We’ve got time to find the right fit, if that’s how it works - I’d be more concerned that the delay means we can’t get our preferred ‘right fit’. |  |

Have to remember we waited until deadline day (1st Feb) for Moore because it took Bournemouth that long to sign Unal as his replacement. Then Moore came off the bench on the 3rd and scored twice. | | | |

The only good thing about strikers is that they can slip straight in and play don't really need to learn patterns of play,
Other players need to learn his patterns so don't start straight away,
I think we will be waiting untill the end of the window and like you say that's a lot of matches without a new striker, we still have strikers all average though,
Difficult position to fill especially January,
Still irks a bit how much we've spent on wide players and not on a decent striker,
I take delap out of that as it could have gone either way and we were always a one season stepping stones for him, | | | |
