Yep, family from the area, they’ve not lived it down since. Wet, cold and miserable is Wrexham and it definitely was that day. I did think we were going to win it with Paz’s header. Defeat summed up a crap season.

Yes. Me and my mate had been tremendously thirsty on the train trip and that combined with the fresh Welsh air made us both strangely giddy on arrival.
Yeah I was there. An embarrassing performance in a season of embarrassing performances. Not just that we weren’t good enough but there was a distinct lack of fight so often on the pitch

I was their, not a nice place and not very hospitable as I remember, the local pub we went in was not very sociable And the walk to and from ground had a strange atmosphere similar to that that I had experienced going to the new den at a similar time Keep one eye over your shoulder like? 9

It was either a week before, or after, we won at Anfield.
Yep, I was at both.
Wrexham was a dismal day in the FA Cup, and getting on the train at Crewe to go to Anfield a week later, I wondered why I bothered. I knew why a few hours later.

I think we arrived in Wrexham about 8am and had been on the sauce all the way. Back on it in a pub there and this goes down as the only game I have ever fallen asleep at. Ruined. Lol

Yep. Miserable day all round. We were awful that season but thought we might get a replay when Linighan equalised. Adam Tanner then gave away a needless penalty and it was a long trip home.
He turned into the hero 7 days later though…

I was there but not exactly fond memories, horrible game, antagonistic locals and worst of all Wrexham Lager!!!
I wasn’t at this game, but did used to go to the Racecourse quite a bit after I moved up that way in ‘97. There’s some rough parts of Wrexham and a few feisty ones around, that’s for sure.
I've been to Wrexham once. I was on a night bus from Liverpool to Oxford in January 1979 and I woke up, freezing cold, in the small hours and wondered where we were, only to be told "Wrexham". This must have been a very circuitous route!

It was either a week before, or after, we won at Anfield.
It was a week before our win at Anfield, and the midpoint in Adam Tanner’s crazy introduction to pro football:
Jan 2 - scores on his debut against Leicester in a 4-1 win at Portman Road. Jan 7 - Gives away the penalty that knocks us out of the FA Cup at Wrexham. Jan 14 - Scores the only goal for our first ever win at Anfield.
His career got much duller after that. No wonder he went on the blow.
