People criticise VAR but before its introduction the same people were chastising the officials for making mistakes. On top of this, pundits, managers and the players were also constantly criticising the officials.

Yes, let's accept refs' decisions, play on and save ourselves the utter tedium that is killing what we all loved about football.

If it was only used for "clear and obvious" errors there would be no issues.

Sadly, the interpretation of "clear and obvious" seems to extend to every bloody decision thats made by the officials.

If it takes minutes to review something, its not clear and obvious.

Tonight was particularly stupid. He may have been impeding the defender but he wasn't offside. They just seemed to be hell bent on making it offside.

Human error is part of the game. Goal line technology is fine. Leave that in place a put the rest in the bin.

Given the level of cheating, there’s very little that is that ‘blatant’.

The refs are there to referee. Let them decide. It’s their job. The pace of the game is more important than sitting around waiting four minutes for potentially the wrong decision to be made. It’s painful to watch in a game that’s all about ‘the moment’.

For NFL, cricket, tennis use of technology is fine. There is quick, clear right and wrong. There can never be that with football on too many occasions so bin it unless you can find a way of judging it it with tech instantly.

I'm going to be perfectly honest here. I was all for VAR when it was introduced. There's nothing wrong with the actual technology, but of course it's policed by human beings who it seems can't resist trying to stop games for any minor misdemeanor they can possibly find. I never thought I'd say this but I'd be very much in favour of going back to the old ways and let referees do exactly what they are employed to do. In this aspect at least, Championship football has certainly been more enjoyable without the frequent stop/starts. Maybe there's still room for VAR just as offside technology, after all that's pretty much objective rather than subjective.

I think that there is definitely a place in football for technology.

Goal line technology should stay.
Offside technology should stay.

In terms of VAR, in cases of violent conduct I wouldn’t be opposed to VAR being able to intervene and alert the ref to such an incident. But other than that, maybe allow the head coach/ manager to have three VAR appeals per match.

He was offside, he was in front of the goalkeeper.

I agree with others this decision was so subjective there was no need for VAR to get involved.

I'd get rid and just keep goal line tech and the semi auto offside checks

Yes, goaline technology, which is seperate from VAR and VAR for offsides only. That would do me, would stop those who operate it from thinking they are the referee. Humans make mistakes, including VAR officials ( many of them ). It would be far better to let the actual referee make them from time to time and keep the game flowing. I don't expect perfection from referees, it's not possible, just consistency.

I would include red cards in that. Also, where two yellows = red, I'd review both yellows. There's no need to stop the game for that (unless it's the Keeper). Just send them off or let them back on once it's been reviewed. It can have such a massive impact on the outcome of the game

There are two VAR threads, ive posted the same comments:

Pages have been written on this but we were not consulted about its introduction on the way in, then why would anyone responsible for its effective operation care what we think now its in place.

In regards to this decision last night its bs

In regards to its general use how have we got to the point where football matches are basically being re-reffed to within micro meters for offsides and matches are at standstill for minutes at a time whist someone other than the match ref decides on key moments.

To most of us agaisnt tech interference from the start its was about giving the ref the chance to review an incident again in slower time, not for a whole group of people to be sitting outside thr stadium offering perspective on atomic level precision.

I like the idea of a replay being available to a ref or managers being able to ask for 1-2 key decision challenges. If they are worried about pressure on the ref to make decisions in the stadium good grief time to get control.
