| Jenrick sacked on 08:36 - Jan 16 with 635 views | DJR | David Davies was good on this. Tory MP David Davis said Robert Jenrick “should stop blaming others for the state of the country” and is “as responsible as anyone else”. The former Brexit secretary wrote on X: “It’s entirely up to Robert Jenrick what he does next with his career. But he should stop blaming others for the state of the country.” He added: “After serving as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Minister of State for Health and Minister of State for Immigration, he is as responsible as anyone else. “Particularly considering that he chose to walk out of government after not being promoted by Rishi Sunak, he now attacks from the sidelines the colleagues he abandoned,” Davis said. “Unlike him, some of his colleagues chose not to serve in governments that were doing the wrong thing.” | | | |

That about sums it up. The Tories spent much of their 14 years telling us the country was broken and they were the ones to fix it, even when after several years it was clear they were the ones largely responsible for breaking it. It seems some Tories are still trying to spin a similar narrative but can now do so under the banner of Reform. For a party that preaches individual responsibility, they really don't seem able to take any accountability for the role they've played in breaking the country. Remarkably, there are enough mugs out there who will still vote for them as well.

The Labour party has to remember, that like the Tories, it is their members who pick the next leader. So whilst there may be a better option than Starmer, they won't be the next leader as the leadership race can't be fiddled. It'll be like when Liz Truss became the PM popularity wise

| Jenrick sacked on 18:12 - Jan 15 by positivity | it was you that made the playoff analogy! agree on the polls, though it's incredibly tight, but it certainly isn't "universally" accepted that badenoch is winning pmqs, always seems very wooden and is even worse at pre-prepared lines than starmer! |
Further to this, the numbers are certainly going in the right direction for the Tories. This latest YouGov poll on the economy*. Conservatives: 21% Reform: 14% Labour: 12% Biggest lead for the Tories in quite some time. As bad as or worse than when Corbyn was Labour leader. *Voters must have very short memories considering the clusterfcuk that was Truss/ Kwarteng partnership in number 10 and 11 Downing Street.

memory has nothing to do with it, ask the average person on the street what policies the tories or reform would enact to improve the economy (or who the shadow/reform chancellor is!) and you'd get a big blank zero. however, if the right wing press/social media tells us that it's stupid to have a woman in charge of the economy, that'll be taken as gospel!

When he was allowed back, he declared that his ban had afforded him the time to re-evaluate his life’s priorities with regards to sniping and squabbling on here. Clearly reverted back to factory settings in pretty short order, though. I did just stumble across this irony-laden pearl of wisdom that he very recently shared with another poster, with regards to obsessive baiting….. ‘It's a very sad way to live a life and I've decided the best course of action is to no longer give him the Oxygen of attention he craves. The odd downvote of disapproval now and then but nothing else. He'll soon grow bored.’

Yes - it's never happened in a Labour party before and they don't really have a mechanism for "ousting" the leader like some other parties do. I also think the damage won't be as bad as predicted, they will lose a lot but i suspect there will be enough of a turnout to not let reform get all the councils like they expect - look at what happened in Wales, for example. Plus, plenty of people will be seeing how badly it's going at Kent.

When this thread resurfaced after three days my first thought was 'Jenrick hasn't lasted long in Reform...'
