I know we need a more effective striker and it’s evident by the number of chances versus goals. Yet, we have the fourth best GD in all 4 divisions and only 8 behind Coventry that are considered a bit of a freak this season.
Coming away from games I am frustrated that we didn’t get into top gear and made it appear a struggle and ‘hanging on’ in some games. Yet we are getting great results and averaging 2 points a game.
Just when you think there’s a settled first eleven, someone wise catches the eye in the constant changes of line up.
The refereeing is absolutely terrible. Still don’t miss VAR though. |  |

The striker/forward thing is weird. We dont seem clinical but score a lot of goals.
Azon is often really unlucky, theres stuff he does really well but then he does miss "easier" chances.
Hirst isnt remotely close to being as bad as some will have you believe, he is an important player in our system. However he isnt a 15/20 goal a season striker.
I get the need for someone more clinical... but Im not sure that they are available in this window......

I know what you’re saying but even in comfortable score lines it’s not always been a standout performance, not trying to sound harsh but you get what I mean. Still moments of madness and missed chances aplenty. | |

Scores goals. Tap ins, one on ones, breaks forward and shoot, goes it alone and smashes it home, leads the line and helps keep the possession high up the pitch. Basically converting a much higher proportion of our chances. | |

They still need to do the stuff we do already do well, like Hirst off the ball and holding up the ball, bringing in other players to attack. But we need the above in addition as it’s not really happening.

I think people are in danger of over thinking about the striker and lack of individual goals.
Maybe one of the reasons that the likes of Hirst, Azon and Akpom aren’t scoring loads of goals is because their job is to cause problems for the opposition defence and create space and opportunities for others.
When we last got promoted Chaplin and Broadhead were top scorers on just 13 goals, with Omari chipping in with 10.
We’ve already had 13 different scorers this season, we are 2nd highest scorers in the division and for the first time in a few seasons a solid defence.

Not necessarily.
But certainly a significant budget if we have any ambition of getting in, and staying in the premier league.
Our current strike force, combined, have only one more goal than Jaden and two more than Clarke.
But as I said in the original post, find ourselves in a good position with GD. | |
