Not a position we need to no need for us to buy although there is an argument for him fitting us and knowing us over Mehmeti but we are obviously more confident in Mehmeti. It's interesting neither us or Burnley took Sarmiento when promoted. I think he's a real talent but better off the bench.

Fairly average player but 3m sounds about right, I’d have had him here as a squad player at that price. Don’t think McAteer is a better player though at 3 or 4 times that fee.

Yiu just know he’s going to get a last minute winner for Boro when they come to Portman Road 😥

His average at best but will be always remembered for the Southampton goal . The lad from Bristol city is a far better buy for 3 million as for McAteer let's see been a bit better last couple of games.

I don't think that's fair, he is good Championship player who could develop He will be useful for them

| Sarmiento to Middlesbrough on 10:32 - Jan 26 with 509 views | _CliveBaker_ | Produced some big, big moments for us, not least the late equaliser at Leicester and of course the winner against Saints. He was never a player you felt you could hang your hat on though in terms of complete performances. Seemed to carve himself out a bit of a niche as a 'wild card' throw him off the bench type option if we wanted to cause a bit of havoc, almost like a better Kyle Edwards. His rare starts with us actually coincided with some of our poorer team performances that season, whether that was circumstantial or not its hard to say given the small sample size. Maidstone, Preston, Cardiff, Boro. I would guess our win % with and without him starting was stark in its contrast, not that it necessarily points to him as the reason for that. I'll always appreciate those hollywood moments he played his part in, just not a player I really felt could be trusted at times. Seemed to follow a similar trajectory at Burnley last season. It'll be interesting to see how he does at Boro, no doubt a decent punt at that sort of money though. | | | |

I think it's fair often sub here everywhere he has been not started regularly here Burnley in the championship or now in Italy. Never knock his effort not as good as Ensico who we also got from Brighton. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Always felt like he was a good sub, which given the amount made every game now probably isn't the worst thing to be. Pressed and tracked well and as you say provided that wildcard energy. Is semi-interesting that we've tried to add that every January (with Mehmeti the latest in that mould imo).

Agree with that sentiment wildcard is probably the right terminology

Mehmeti is a vastly superior player. Sarmiento has struggled for game time as Ipswich, West Brom, Burnley and Cremonese
