I have a couple of mates who are obsessed with this weird pseudoarchaeology stuff.
The thing is, we've been mates since we were kids, I've known um for over 40 years and I guess they trust my views on most things. But the other month they were asking me about 'ancient giants'. The more I suggested their was no real archaeological evidence for it the more they looked at me like I was trying to cover up some ancient secret.
I have semi given up trying to convince um otherwise The feckin Internet as a lot to answer for

I do enjoy the videos showing stepped rice paddies with people adamant it's proof of giants because why else would they be shaped like that?
And ancient trees as well. Another hit.
The most unfortunate thing is that these start off silly, but on social networks they often act as a starting point for alt-right stuff.

I reckon they were built by dinosaurs
I have long understood this to be the case. Strong bodies, long reach, dainty hands for getting the triangles right. The real question is who they built them for.

it all sounds very plausible to me, except the long reach bit, maybe they were being built *for* the tyranossaurs...

Genesis 6:4 mentions that before the flood giants came down to earth to take wives from the daughters of man

A welcome and clever hypothesis but aliens remains the prevailing thought. The tyrannosaurus was likely responsible for the tricky bit at the top after all and builders rarely make masters. In fact its peers would have assigned it a more fitting name at the time, since incorrectly reimagined by us due to lost records and misunderstandings as to why this particular dinosaur had a big head.

Yer, it does seem to be unfortunately, luckily the 2 mates of mine who are mad for this stuff have absolutely no interest in politics.
Obviously all these alternative historical theories are interesting enough. I use to really enjoy um ( bit tired of some of um at this point). There usually more interesting then the truth, which I guess is why they exist.
I think it was Ken I was talking to a while back about how there is much more money in successfully making up pseudo archaeology then there is doing the real thing. Me and a friend have actually spent the last 20 odd years collecting info on weird archaeological objects, such as oversized Spears and tiny flint arrowheads etc for a probably imaginary kids book when we retire called the archaeological evidence for giants, elves and fairies.
The idea was to show kids how easy it is to use archaeology/history to claim a false narrative.

Over sized Spears
I know Brittany has “chunked up” a bit to say that is a bit harsh

Some of them can be, but for me these places are already really intersting. OK, maybe not "massive giants roaming around", but it's really cool that over 4000 years ago people had worked out how to use boats to transport massive limestone rocks from quarries down a river to build these incredible structures.

always blows my mind that cleopatra was closer in time to us than the pyramids' construction

The evidence isn't that far away from you is it? How else do you think that causeway got there without the giants?
