We are incapable of beating a lo block side ... we move the ball far too slowly to get this tactic.

McKenna ought to have ideas how to beat the low block now. He has come up against it plenty of times. Blo0dy useless!

It almost feels like at times it’s our strategy to let them get as set as possible before we attempt to start an attack.

Preston are everything we struggle against. Two compact lines in fromt of us, no space to play though them, and qwe didnt have any idea on how to play overt or artound them.

Very physical. I'd say they won the physical battle albeit with a lot of help from the ref.

How long has McKenna been here? 4 years? This has been a problem from day one and he still doesn't seem to be able to work out how to beat this style of play.

Or down to missing three absolute sitters and the ref bottling giving us another pen? Our xG today was over 2, we created plenty but were wasteful. Games like today are frustrating even if you find a way to win as only one side is trying to play football. It's hard to take a team apart when they are sat as compact as Preston were. But reality is we created more than enough to win that game today. And we did mix our tactics up, we went direct a fair few times to try and exploit what little space they left. We didn't fail to win today because of our tactics.

I can see what we are trying to do but I think at times we need more 2024 chaos (like injury time ended up), even when we try and be patient we leave ourselves exposed in games like today.

KM is backing us to score at least one at keep a clean sheet against these type of teams, often works today was massively frustrating though.

When we don’t have a Philogene worldie in our locker it doesn’t help either. They’ll be back soon enough.

He did find a way in the tail end of 22/23. Best way to beat a team playing a low block is be clinical with our chances (because we do have them) and score before they do so they have to leave their shape and open up.

Since League 1, we've not really needed to break a low block besides a few isolated games. 23/24 in the Championship, teams were way more open with us, 24/25 we were against far better and more expansive teams who simply didn't need to.

Could be said tho herbz for better finishing they too could have had a couple.

Weve bemoaned missed chances a lot this season. Its a positive because at least we created every game. But for so long now we are bemoaning missing easy chances. That then doesnt help as the game progresses as it slowed down and it became a bit of town slowly passing around then preston breaking once we lost the ball.

How as a manager do you handle Clarke for example with that chance. Its great youve got a pen. Its great youve scored some handy goals. But time and time again we either fail to score with a pis poor effort or we take the wrong option on trying to use the strongest foot. How do you manage that.. can it be changed? Or are these players so one dimensional they cant change. ( hope you see where im coming from with that, I know what I want to say but dont know if ive said it correctly )

We beat Oxford & Blackburn at home recently and both played a low block.

Preston went lower than ever, their team started with 3 defenders, 6 midfielders and 1 attacker. Apparently its the first game this season they've only started with 1 player in attack.

That's their perogative and we need to move the ball quicker to open up low block teams. Yes we do struggle against low block teams but to say we're incapable of beating any is incorrect.
