Added to which, I would love to know how many passes he made that were made backwards. I understand he hasn’t played a lot, but the sheer lack of confidence, situational awareness and forward ‘drive’ was unbelievable from him. Every single time he received the ball, he went back to O’Shea (with open space in front of him).

He's a good crosser of the ball and a nice footballer, and I sometimes wonder if he might make a better fist of playing in the advanced right position than, say, McAteer. He presumably isn't considered strong enough defensively at right back.
As it is, Furlong doesn't really link up well with whoever is ahead of him. Indeed, I am not sure Burns got a direct pass from him all game. The contrast with Donacian, Harry Clarke and the Man Utd player couldn't be greater, and I was interested to hear that Clarke had an assist for a goal today. [Post edited 31 Jan 20:26]

Our most underused player this season IMO. Again doesn’t fit how he’s trying to play though. Lovely ball in injury time. Best we had all day. | |
