1. No wonder they want to get rid of jury trials.
2. Defend Our Juries said the verdicts were “a huge blow to government ministers” who had “tried to portray Palestine Action as a violent group to justify banning it under badly drafted terrorism legislation”. I don't think anyone has suggested you are, and would even have had it is a consideration so I wouldn't worry in that regard.
I think the thread would always go that way, because it is a quite shocking case, and generally this country isn't like the US where Jury selection and the massive divide in their country has always been a big part of things.
I just wouldn't really, probably naively, expected it here in such an open and naked political way:
"During the trial one juror asked the judge whether it would count as a lawful excuse if a defendant believed they were performing a life-saving action by destroying weapons used to kill civilians in an illegal genocide. Johnson said it would not, but Menon reminded the jurors of their absolute right to acquit."
If a juror has this view and asks this question, then they shouldn't be on a jury for me for a case like this |  |

But this thread has got onto antisemitism (including the implied suggestion that the jury was antismetic) when that issue couldn't have been further from my mind when I posted what I did.
I suppose it just shows the difficulties/interpretations that can arise by posting anything about Israel, Gaza, Palestine or Palestine Action, so in future I am just going to stay off these topics on TWTD: I'm not on social media elsewhere anyway. [Post edited 5 Feb 16:41]

Have another read through. Hopefully you’ll see there’s a lot of surprise at the outcome, and that nobody is celebrating the injury to the officer in the police who sustained the horrible injury.
