| View on how season plays out from here 07:53 - Feb 7 with 702 views | Blue_Uprising | A perspective/prediction on how I think the season may end up (at the almost run in) One team in the current top 4 will end on 90 points as champs Second and third place will be very close around 85 points with one or two points in it So I believe that it will end up a lower point scoring season than many, but not necessarily a record low points table. Interested to hear what others think. I really want us to get top2 - not from entitlement. But from fear (mostly a bit irrational) 1) its a fairytale that will all come crashing down 2) ptsd on playoffs from the burley / royle years! I know some will say this is amazing vs the barren wasteland years. And it is in every way. But it is precisely because we have clawed our way out of the mud that I don’t want to go back there !! 😂 In this scenario 2/4 are must wins, ideally 3/4. Starting with a win today. COYB! I personally don’t think we can pin hopes on saving up a winning run to the last 10 games in a row. I think we can do it. But strapping in for a nailbiting end, and scraping in. | | | | |
| View on how season plays out from here on 08:10 - Feb 7 with 618 views | Blue_Heath | I think you are correct in that one team will get over the line with 3 or 4 games to spare (likely Boro) another will do so by a few games (likely Cov due to their start) and then a massive fight for 5th and 6th with a couple of teams having breathing space in 3rd/4th (likely us+1). For me a Wembley win best way to go up but obviously 1 in 4 chance that happens, factor in our play off form with mental fragility of this team and It's more like 1 in 8. Therefore, we need top 2, I thought we'd blown it in recent promotions at times but this team just doesn't give off the right vibe to me, too passive, too weak, can't grind out a result. We'd likely finish 3rd/4th so the home advantage becomes a disadvantage as we'd likely lose the away leg and then whoever we play does the classic sit back and time waste. If I am honest I don't really want to go up - less games, VAR, getting thrashed most weeks, plastic fans etc I prefer the championship but football is about money now and for that reason alone we need to be in the prem given the money we've wasted in previous seasons. I am sure there will be twists and turns no doubt starting today. Not going up this year will become even more difficult next year due to those coming down and I don't see any profit incoming from sales due to the likes of Clarke and Philogene being offset by Ogbene, etc. In short, we need to go up top 2 would be great, Wembley better but am I confident? Sadly not, but who knows maybe we get another Sarmiento moment that will make me believe. [Post edited 7 Feb 8:12]

I was convinced of second a couple of weeks ago and actually started to think champions was more likely. But because it is the championship, every time I look at the fixture list I think ‘that’s a tough looking month’ and think on balance the bucketload of sloppy dropped points will cost us. Charlton at home….having been well on top…. looks more and more costly every week. At least the fear of ‘them’ making a late run into the playoffs has receded.

But all season, since someone (likely in here) mentioned that we have never bounced straight back, then I kind of settle for going up next year. I hope I am wrong of course.

Boro have to visit us, Coventry and Sheffield Utd, so if they do come through those with 6 points, they’ll be well set. They will however have to average the fabled 2 points per game from here to meet your prediction. Coventry look to have an easier run in than Boro, but it’s the Championship so who knows. I think the winners might end up on less than 90 points, there are too many teams fighting for something, just my opinion.

I think Boro's home games are all winnable plus I think they can beat Cov too and likely get a draw at Sheff U, not going to dare make a prediction for when they play us!

The experiences we went through when gaining promotion from League One will stand us in good stead this time around.

Except other than Walton & Davis, very few starters in the team that experienced that, not really sure it counts for much now tbh.

I think that if there is any truth in that it will either fester away and drag us to an adequate play off place and a vague hope of promotion, but a lottery, or it fires him up to show what he can do, even for other possible suitors, and we charge on and get top 2.
| View on how season plays out from here on 11:33 - Feb 7 with 229 views | Smoresy | Season-long form puts us on target for 79 points. Gav's form table, last 6 home & last 6 away, puts us on target for 78 points. Away games and how many we have left, that's what's ripping a blasted hole in our sails. The big sell is that our last outing was as tough as they come, while the one before that was the best we've played all season. Don't look at the form, short or long, because we're a different animal on the road now. Heck, can recent away form even be described as such when we've played once in six weeks. Today is the time to restate that case and I defer my prediction until afterwards lol. | | | |

Despite all the doom and gloom, that’s still perfectly possible!

That is true. We have to start the pissing now. And that early goal should help 🙏

Hirst, Walton, Burns and Davis on the field, but don’t underestimate the importance of Sone Aluko, Rene Gilmartin, Martyn Pert, Mark Hudson and of course Kmc as well. There’s a lot of previous experience there to draw on. If I’ve one criticism, I believe bringing Sam Morsy back into the fold would have been very beneficial too.
