Have the management at PR been spoilt by the large sums of money floating around from the owners and the Premier League.
Where in the past very good players were sourced or even came through the ranks for a relatively small fee or the cost of seeing them thrive.
Now it seems there's no time, well at present, to bring your own through.
Where it's the here and now that's a priority. All positions must be covered and paying over the odds becomes the norm because other clubs know your worth and ramp up the prices.
I have to say that sadly our neighbours up the A140 have in the main been better at managing their funds than we have and whilst we can't pick a striker to save our lives they have a multi million pound one training with the under 21's and seem to be doing o.k. thank you very much without him.
Teams over the years haven't always had superstars in every position. When Man Utd had the likes of Law, Best and Charlton they had Nobby Stiles.
We have had the likes of Brian Talbot. Replaced by Murhen and Thijssen. Talbot wasn't the classiest, but was sort by Arsenal due to the engine he had. Roger Osborne, again not the greatest, but made himself a legend in the 78 Cup Final.
Sometimes it's not always the best Sweeties in the Shop that makes a great sweet shop or in our case the best ITFC.

Not many players have come through the ranks for sometime, either not good enough or not given a chance. Our academy record of producing top quality is not that good to be honest.

I think it is accepted though that the double promotion put paid to allowing some of the youngsters first team experience.

I think the likes of Baggot, Humphries et al would likely have played a more first team football and been given more a chance.

One hopes the work that we are currently doing, both in terms of our own but also signing some very good young talent and our Cat 1, will see this change over the next few years.

Remember - our youth policy was somewhat abandoned by Evans during his tenure.

Yeah it will take the youth system years to fully recover from the Evan’s era but great we are bringing in quality youngster and upgrading the facilities. Whilst it’s nice to have some home grown players it’s equally important from a financial sustainability point of view.

Agree, look at the promo side of 99/00 lots of home grown talent in there, now we don't have one who can get a place on the bench.

I think you’ll find that the damage done to the youth system under Evans will take a few years to rectify yet!

I sometimes think we've got a lot of Rip Van Winkle supporters

We've not had functional infrastructure, including an academy, for over a decade prior to GC taking control of the club. Them up the road have been way ahead of for years. Saying we've wasted the money imo is missing the whole rebuild that's taken place over the last 4 years - but it takes time to get these things in place, operating effectively and delivering results.

Patience you must have my young padawan...

Exactly this! We ran a league one academy and produced a number of league one/lower champ quality players out of it - Baggott, Humph, Clarke, Woolf, Ben Knight, Ndaba, Gibbs, El Miz, Chiwera.

Bit disappointed that Cam Hum and Baggott haven't been seen to be good enough, it seems that if you're brought in for huge money( plenty of those) you're given a lot of time and allowed twice as many mistakes and poor performances as " one of our own " who aren't ready or too young...

Didn’t take Evans long to destroy it, only two years before his tenure started we had win the FA Youth cup.
