Back in the day we often played in pre season mini tournaments abroad.
There was always a travel company (cant remember which one) that organised trips/hotels/match tickets etc for the supporters and I went on a couple.
One trip was for a 4 team tournament in Brugges and we had accommodation in Ostend.
Another was another 4 team tournament at Feyenoord and we stayed in Rotterdam.
The nights were pretty lively with Ipswich supporters mingling with the locals drinking well into the night and different bars etc.
We even saw Bobby Robson and Cyril Lee out having a drink.
I remember it all being very friendly drinking in Ostend but in Rotterdam it was a different story as the local thugs came after us on a couple of occasions.
I remember a group of around 20 of us tried to gain entry to the disco/nightclub named Bristol and we were attacked by the bouncers with baseball bats and a couple needed hospital treatment.
Despite the trouble these were brilliant trips and a good laugh! [Post edited 21 Feb 7:42]

Time we had a Bobby Robson tournament.
Ipswich, Newcastle, PSV, Barca , sporting & Porto. In UK one year Portugal the next. Two groups of three with one English & one Portuguese team in each. Winner of each group in a decider. |  |
