Yeah if you do the A505 route you can come off the A1 at Hatfield / St Albans and get through to Watford that way and avoid the M25. Either North Orbital or through St Albans itself. |  | | |

Yes come off just after you've gone under the Hatfield Tunnel to the A414.
Warning, that road is busy (as is the A1), even more so if everyone is trying to avoid the M25! [Post edited 24 Feb 16:02]
