| Egeli right position 13:07 - Feb 25 with 1325 views | FrimleyBlue | Thought it would be good to dive into last nights heat map and compare it to what he was used to playing. We've seen the individual attributes he has, but we don't really get to see the best of it when imo he's having to play so deep in comparison to what he once was playing. I couldn't find one for last season, but found one for the season prior https://totalfootballanalysis. obviously well aware different level etc, but just found it really interesting really how different his role with town is compared to previous freedom of spaces. Also it's interesting how the flanks differed last night and historically between fullbacks and how much this must effect our right side too. Greaves Furlong It's a complex balance isn't it. To try and get the most out of egeli, you'd expect he needs furlong to be a lot more progressive himself, a lot less short passes between the two on halfway, more overlap runs from furlong allowing egeli to explode across into the box. it's a tough gig i feel for egeli on our right side this season, he'll be developing in certain aspects but we're definitely not being able to see the explosive acceleration etc that he was written down to have by the scouting networks last year. | |

In contrast, Burns receives the ball on the half-turn and his first thought is always getting at the full back. Hopefully he is learning from Burns and we might see more of that come into his game. There was a few opportunities in the first half yesterday when he turned back into a good position for an inswinging cross with his left but played a short pass instead. Not sure if that is confidence or instructions though.
| Egeli right position on 13:53 - Feb 25 with 1046 views | Steve_M | On Egeli, we need to take into account both the nature of the opposition and the role he's being asked to play. For a player who hasn't always got the defensive side of the game right, it's quite telling that he was generally in the right place off the ball yesterday, perhaps at the cost of some attacking intent. It's also true that he hasn't got the same confidence that saw him go past the full back early on at QPR or to cut back and swing dangerous balls in as he was doing in December. The goal yesterday will help but he needs to perhaps be a bit braver on the ball (although Town fans are really sympathetic to trying too hard and losing the ball at the moment....). Burns being back is a good thing for us, and as Clive Baker and Henners were discussing earlier, he was very sharp and helped us close the game out well. It might be good for Egeli as well as we have two different profiles for that position now, as with Clarke/Philogene and Nunez/Memheti. A work in progress though but, as I've noted before, Omari only really clicked in February 2024. He was quite erratic, albeit at a higher base level than SWE, before that. | |

Since you mention Omari, Egeli could do with watching the way Omari would come inside and get a so at goal.

| Egeli right position on 14:53 - Feb 25 with 773 views | tonybied | A lot is made of Egeli not really beating his man and getting to the byline, but Furlongs passes to him are more often short and inside, so he tends to be committed to coming inside due to that more often than not. If, as you say, Furlong was willing to bomb on more and pass in front of Egeli we would probably have more success that side. The trouble is that is what causes us trouble on the other side of the pitch, Leif bombs on leaving a big hole at the back which, if we lose the ball, often gets exposed. If we did that on both wings, we could find that it affects the defence in a big way. | | | |

Suppose hes always been an inverted type. The past info does state tho that he did go on the outside too. And weve seen it briefly too. But I think we need to see him flourish at getting inside before we start seeing him do both. At the moment i think the task is how can we get him high enough to be what he was over him dropping so deep he cant express himself.

Have to consider, he's young, used to playing in an an undoubtedly inferior league, he'll have known very quickly that the defenders he's up again are bigger, stronger and faster than encountered before (on a regular basis). IMO, he's doing fine, still looks young physically, but has the right ideas...I think a full pre-season will do him the absolute world of good. Glad we have the experience of Wes to help.
