What’s the longest you have had an appliance or electrical item for ?
I bought a fridge back in 1993 had it 30 years before it died on me .
Another thing I have is a lightbulb I bought in Felixstowe the same year it’s a big old decorative light bulb and it’s still going.
I also was using an IPhone 6 up until last May. |  |

My childhood/teen, at times adult home and probably pensioner home one day have benefitted from the delights of mum and dads wedding present until this day .. gas oven .. nearly 60 years now and still doing the job .. my dad was a chef too and both have wanted for nothing financially but still it works overtime and never needed any maintenance beyond cleaning occasionally. |  |

A British made 'Northern' Hairdryer that was bought by one of my late parents in 1976 according to the handwritten receipt that is still with it. It doesn't get much use but still works.
Also on the fridge front have a 90s (mid I think) Lec fridge that has gone a little rusty on the bottom but is still working perfectly. |  | | |

That reminds me of the pure joy on Saturday mornings and going into town - John Menzies or Wh Smith - to buy a new Codemasters game and then race home to load up the cassette player and let the spectrum whirr into life. TWTD. | |

I've got a metal desk lamp, dates back to about 1988., had it at university and every place I've lived at since. I don't remember ever changing the bulb on it either but sure it can't have lasted that long!
Don't have a use for it any longer so, although, it's rather basic, I'll be getting rid of it with some sadness. |  |

I own a kettle which was bought for me by my parents when I went to college in 1988. Used to use it for work, but the electrics are now a bit iffy after it was put in a damp basement.
Think the oldest item (electrical or otherwise) which I regularly use and has always been in the family is a wooden table which was made for my great-grandparents (last decade or so of the 19th century, at a guess). |  |

Brilliant! I also have a Black and Decker drill bought in 1989 when I got my first flat in Stoke Newington. I ummed and ahhed for ages in the hardware shop, do I get the cheap one or the Proline version that cost twice as much, but looked really well made. I got the Proline one, it is still absolutely perfect and has had some dogs abuse over the years. Been through at least 9 properties since 1989. The quality will be remembered long after the price is forgotten. [Post edited 27 Feb 17:53]

Same, although mine was a bit later in 2012. I also had to get the motherboard changed after a couple of years. It’s been fine ever since though. |  |

Beat ya. I still have going a fridge I bought as a fairly battered cheapo item, Polish I think, *second hand* in 1994. Keep meaning to bin it as it probably costs more to run every year than it did to buy it, the clue being a massive rise in my leccy bills in summer!
It’s an ‘overspill’ fridge in the half basement for surplus veg & longlife stuff though, so I’ve taken to only having it switched on during cheap rate leccy periods.
Another item was my now badly missed old Miele washing machine which died last year after 31 years of loyal service - never needed any attention apart from 3 new selector knobs when a succession of 3 puppies chewed them to smithereens. No modern machine came even close to matching it for versatility of programmes & features/options/efficiency when it came to buying a new one. |  |

Nothing particularly old but I never buy anything new. My TV was bought, 2nd hand, in 2015 and my Iphone 11, bought used, a few years ago (admittedly, I did get a new battery fitted last year). [Post edited 28 Feb 7:45]
