I was just discussing the Taj Mahal with someone - quite amazing to think that this came about as a monument to one man's love of his wife and has, over the years, become one of the world's most iconic tourist destinations.

Will there ever be anything created by the ultra-wealthy of the 21st century, that will be held in the same regard in 500 years' time?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I'm sure that people will visit various WW3 memorials and wonder how we let the run be run by a selection of super-wealthy fascists and peadophiles.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Today’s wealthy seem more intent on destroying than building, although the Whitehouse may get a new ballroom.

Nicholas van Hoogstraten (the notorious landlord) planned to build the most expensive private residence in a century and which was intended to be bigger than Buckingham Palace. It was to include a mausoleum for when he died, but the house was never completed and now lies in ruins.

Not quite the Taj Mahal but on the same sort of scale.

His exploits as a landlord even inspired a song in which he is referred to as "Nicholas van Whatshisface".
