| According to David Lammy on 13:52 - Mar 6 by RadioOrwell | Same way that this happened. Partygate/Misleading Parliament: A 2023 Privileges Committee report found that Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament on multiple occasions regarding lockdown parties in Downing Street. Specific Misstatements: He was accused of providing false information on numerous occasions, with some commentators tracking "top ten" lists of inaccuracies within his first year. Refusals to Answer: In a February 2022 interview, he was noted to have refused to answer questions about rule-breaking parties 17 times. General Rule Breaking: OpenDemocracy reported 18 instances where Johnson was accused of breaking rules, including nine breaches of parliamentary rules in a single year (2018). Specific "Misspoke" Example: He formally "misspoke" (misrepresented) the Covid-19 rules regarding, specifically, whether households could meet in the North East in September 2020. Critics often cited his habit of "umbling and erring" as a technique, while others pointed to his history of being sacked for fabricating quotes or lying, notes one analysis. |

Sorry, Matt - but the point is our politicians should have a solid grasp of the area of which they are in charge. Too many of them in power spout errors that show they are not knowledgable in their positions. Lammy didn’t misspeak, he didn’t know. Not many of them do which should be a concern for us all. I fear we live in an age where our politicians skills are in talk rather than knowledge and competence. The next GE is the first time I will have so little confidence in casting a vote.

You may be forgetting how bad the Tories were at that time. Check out the findings of the inquiry that’s been wrapping up this week. It’s hard to imagine anyone being worse. It’s possible I suppose, but I’m not sure I can think of anything in their record that suggests this lot would be worse.

| According to David Lammy on 13:54 - Mar 6 by RadioOrwell | Same way Liz did this. Russian Sovereignty Gaffe (February 2022): While serving as Foreign Secretary in Moscow, she mistakenly said that Britain would never recognize Russian sovereignty over Rostov and Voronezh, which are officially part of Russia. She likely intended to refer to Ukrainian regions. Derbyshire vs. Gloucestershire (August 2022): While campaigning for the Tory leadership in Cheltenham (Gloucestershire), she told supporters that the government was producing nuclear reactors in Derbyshire. "Tea Sock" Gaffe (2022): During a discussion on the Northern Ireland Protocol, she mispronounced "Taoiseach" (the Irish prime minister) as "tea sock". |
I never thought I'd ever post anything supportive of Liz Truss but mispronouncing a Gaelic word is no biggie, it is a language that often trips people up. Some of the spellings and pronounctiations seem to be a deliberate wind up. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I agree with you, and not for the first time, with once a blue. I think this was a dreadful fck up by the foreign sec. If Truss had done it, she’d have been ripped to shreds. He clearly doesn’t know his detail well enough.

Again, the conversation was about today’s Labour government. I responded to a poster who stated that today’s government might well handle lockdown/covid a lot worse than how the then Tory administration did. I replied that today’s Labour government wouldn’t party in the rose garden. The conversation had nothing to do with Corbyn. Am I being thick?

I don't think you are being thick but today's government wouldn't have been in power during covid. So the only alternative to the Johnson Tory government was a Corbyn Labour government. We can only deal in known facts. We know wh the two alternatives for government were in 2019. Johnson and Corbyn. We know that both Corbyn and Johnson broke covid rules with regards to parties. So it is fair to say that the Labour government would have broken their on copvid rules had they been in power. To compare the Labour government of today with that who would have been in power during covid is like comparing apples and oranges, as many of the Starmer government refused to serve in a Corbyn shadow cabinet.

This is getting painful. A poster stated that he thought that today’s government would’ve handled Covid worse than the past administration. It was a theoretical discussion which didn’t touch upon Corbyn. Think I’ll leave it there. 4-0 Town, Azon hat-trick.
