| The 11 on the field on 13:10 - Mar 11 with 525 views | tcblue | You're making a case for VAR and IMO the absence of that is part of what makes the Championship better than the PL for me. I think my main problem with it (VAR) is exactly your point - "there's so much at stake for a business". We seem to move farther and farther away from football being entertainment for the common man and more and more to it being a commodity. I hope to never have to get used to having to wait for a minute or two before being able to celebrate a goal. There will be, at some point, a moment where the genie can't go back into the bottle - where a game's result gets overturned retrospectively. That would pound that last bit of immediate entertainment out of the game. | | | |
| The 11 on the field on 13:58 - Mar 11 with 468 views | Vaughan8 | So you want VAR? That is fine but don't ever moan about it. I dislike VAR and I prefer to take these decisions on the chin. I'm not even sure last night's one would have been overturned (nor would it have been given if the ref didn't give it). VAR is just another level of incompetence. See Leicester at home last season. | | | |
| The 11 on the field on 14:12 - Mar 11 with 453 views | MrPotatoHead | This might be unpopular but I don't think the ref got the penalty decision wrong last night. It was very soft but the game is very soft nowadays. We were our own worst enemies and shouldn't have put ourselves in that position either with the 1st half performance or the final minutes. You can't give the referee a decision to make and cross your fingers. Its too easy to blame the referee. Saturday was different, and had we been given the penalty for the foul on Kipre (which we should have) I don't think people would be so quick to blame the ref last night. | | | |

I mean, both things can be right: - we shouldn't have been in the position of having the ball in our area on the 95th minute and; - the ref got it wrong You're the only person - including all the analysts on Sky etc who didn't have any skin in the game - who thought it was a penalty. I think they're as used to the 'soft game' as you are

I never said they couldn't both be right. I said it was soft, but they get given. I also said we shouldn't have put ourselves in that position. 2 separate points.

You did write that you thought the ref didn't get it wrong, though, I didn't imagine that?

Yeah, I don't think he did. Its soft but it doesn't make it wrong. Cajuste has an arm across him, Kipre has a hand on his shoulder. Enough to send a grown man to the floor? Probably not, but I can see how its a foul.

What I think also. From the ref's perspective it looks a bit of a sandwich. Two individually acceptable challenges add up to a foul in his eyes. If one of our guys had chosen to take on the striker while the other tried to get in front and act as cover, it would not have been given. Bit of panic going on. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| The 11 on the field on 16:57 - Mar 11 with 255 views | FrimleyBlue | Also part of me thinks it's better to have a midfielder as captain They can go and grab a freekick and take their time, they can dictate play, slow it down, hit it into the corners etc Oshea at the back is concentrating on his defensive duties. | |

They can also get in the refs ear a lot easier. I've always sworn by a central midfield captain.

If that was the case, why was Kipre booked for the foul?
| The 11 on the field on 17:40 - Mar 11 with 193 views | Swansea_Blue | They should have some sort of additional official able to watch back replays and advise the ref. I bet it’d really help clear up and uncertainties and please all the fans. | |

Just to clarify (& to tcblue) I absolutely do NOT want VAR! I think without it, if an official gets something so wrong & that wrong decision has such a direct impact on the result, so much so that neutrals say it's an error & even more especially when PGMOL admit it to be an error, the dropped amount of points should be awarded back to the impacted club

You can't do that! That's not a solution anyone would go for. Even if the penalty hadn't been awarded how can you guarantee they wouldn't have scored from the resulting set play anyway? That's almost akin to Blackburn saying the abandoned game should've stood as the result, after 80 minutes of play.

If VAR was like the Tech at Wimbledon or even the Rugby review it would be fine. But it's nearly as bad as real time reffing. The point is that Football folks who make all the decisions, on the pitch or in a VAR studio, really don't have a proper understanding of the rules. I just found out that our Leicester Pen appeal against Chaplin was seen as a 'coming together'. Really ? FkOff
