What prompted me to share this here was the bit on Kansas City Current and Denver Summit women's teams, and their own stadia.
Very interesting to hear about the jump in revenue brought about by the women having their own stadium. Obviously a very different football landscape in the US, but could that be the next development in the English women's game?
The section on women’s’ stadia was far more interesting than the bits on Birmingham or Saudi.
Stadiums specifically for the women’s game and the experience of Kansas/Denver shows the next step for a side to the sport that’s only growing. Anything that encourages young people especially to play and to watch is good and it’s interesting have new specific facilities can be a revenue driver.
I can see that happening in the U.K. which can only be good.
Birmingham: sh1thole. Always will be whatever peculiar structure they sling up to slumify. Perhaps they’ll be able to store the garbage in the chimneys.
Saudi? I presume they were awarded the World Cup on merit to develop the game there and no little envelopes passed hands …..again. Yeah, right and Nelson got his eye back too!
So you’ll be able to see the executions at lunchtime in a Saturday in Chop Square (I’m told a very immersive experience), then head out to the desert to watch 60 year old Ronaldo stumbling about in an empty stadium - or at home with a headset. Can’t wait…..

Is it unfair to think that Birmingham fans are going to get a hard lesson in the realities of concept drawings vs final designs? I struggle to imagine that a modern football club is going to spend anything on parts of a stadium that aren't either necessary, or drive revenue. Those chimneys are going to be the first bits of the design to mysteriously disappear.

Odd that both the women's stadiums had one end missing, why was that ?
Maybe for future-proofing/expansion reasons?
I assume it's cheaper and easier to build a whole new stand on some empty land if they need to expand, rather than replacing/expanding a stand, and potentially losing capacity for a season?
Really dont like the Saudi stadium. Its not a football stadium.
Also, big shiny, digitally integrated (🤮) stadiums will only push ticket prices ever higher, and lead to an even worse matchday atmosphere. ....we are seeing it already at Spurs etc.

At the risk of sounding like a dinosaur I do not want an immersive experience whilst watching a match. To me, all those graphics and animations and bright colours take away from the atmosphere. I have absolutely nothing against futuristic design and I hold no ties to the traditional British stadium design of four stands independent of each other. But the chap who was commenting on the Saudi stadium design sounds like someone who doesn’t actually like football.
I fully understand the need to have great facilities and necessity of having a 365 stadium but that makes a stadium expensive with the need for higher ticket prices.
I do wonder if Ipswich were to build two new stands how would they reflect the town as a whole (like the chimneys at Brum). Maybe huge water fountains and features to reflect the towns maritime past - that would be impressive. Think that’s why we wear blue as well.

The design is really interesting - it looks as if it's meant to resemble a bismuth crystal. Definitely not a football stadium, though. Would be more suited to an art gallery or suchlike.
