HSTikkyTokky especially seems to have a lot of trauma relating to his lack of a father figure growing up. Think Theroux should have been probing more on this, especially during the part about disowning a future son if he was gay. Does he think having an absent father has hindered him? Would he be so eager to inflict this on his own children? Overall thought the doc was very milquetoast from Theroux. Lots of "erm, don't you know that's wrong to say" and not really able to get any of the subjects to reflect on their choices and actions. |
I didn’t feel like it was LT’s best doc, he gave them almost to much opportunity to express their views without overly challenging it in my opinion.

Often his style is to hold out a mirror out to them but in this case, they're stlll too delusional to see it themselves It's dusappointing to see people making money being such knobs

I'm sure everyone looks back at their late teens and early 20s and the things that stand out and still make them smile are when you're with your mates, often doing stupid sh1t, just laughing until your face aches. They all just sit around looking serious, just bored out of their brains |
I am 25 so about the right age to have some overlap with this, and would say this is the most obvious issue that they have. Few of my mates have just become miserable to be around because they’re so image focused it’s tragic

I think they key issue here is all of the men he interviewed are media trained and used to being on camera fielding potentially awkward questions. I wouldn't even call any of them delusional, to a certain extent they know that it's all a scam and they don't truly believe most of what they say. But that's what makes the most money.

I strongly dislike people dictating their views on what other people should and should not be. They will be less likely to have liver failure or lung cancer by the age of 60 though. Far less likely to get into drunken brawls because someone "Spilt their pint" as well because accordingly to this man they don't drink them. |
Probably a lot more likely to become rapists or sex traffickers tho.
