We have some clowns in lower Alf who insist on slating our own players for doing it. Ok we have some great pro’s in our team who can rise above any negativity they might be able to hear, but why as a home fan would you bellow at O Shea for example, right in ear shot by the way, boils my piss.

But isn’t that the same with every style of football? Not that long ago, Bart will pass to Luke Chambers who would then lump it up the pitch and it was 50/50 whether the opposition would win back possession. At least with playing it out from the back the team retains possession. Think most good sides mix it up as that’ll keep the opposition guessing. [Post edited 22 Mar 9:31]

Agree the risk of giving the ball away on your pen box or being able to score from it is not worth it.

| It's pathetic on 09:39 - Mar 22 with 560 views | Dyland | Any chance these morons would yell abuse if there was a chance of comeuppance? How the feeble of mind, body and spirit become emboldened when unchallenged. Still wryly acknowledge Cantona's kung fu kick being wrong (dangerous to other fans) but so damn right (what gives fans the right to hurl abuse at players). | |

What an Eeyore comment. I agree we need to mix it up more sometimes though. Yesterday we did tbf. Unfortunately a few of our players had brain farts in the second half, including O'Shea which isn't great seeing as he's the cap. See also our attacking subs, who were largely poor, compounded by Clarke's move to the right where he was less effective.

WE were generally playing though Millwall in the first half, once we settled & we dominated the game. Alex Neil saw what was happening, pushed an extra forward on & Millwall pressed us aggressively. AS a result, we were forced into going long & with Millwall's giant defenders, that was playing into their strength. But variable tactics are what football is all about & Millwall executed their strategy in the 2nd half very well.

Yeah it would have been much more effective to lump up it to their two 6’5 CBs wouldn’t it.

Quite. And then see them nod it back over the heads of our talented ball playing midfielders and attackers, effectively removing them from the game, and creating fast transitions. Amazing people, even now, dont understand this. Our first half dominance came because we were able to keep the ball on the deck and move it around. That came because of the space created by playing out, and because we didnt just hoof it up for a defender to win, and then have a 50/50 facing our own goal as the next phase...

Did you enjoy the back to back promotions? That was based on playing out from the back .

I think we do it well to be honest (at this level anyway)! Is it really that risky? Can only think of 2 or 3 mistakes that have led to goals - KM obviously feels the benefits outweigh the negatives, we as fans just need to grow a pair and be brave about it! We have the second best goal difference by a mile so overall it’s working! KM has done it for 4 years and ain’t gonna change! Do you really want a Mick Mc back telling them to lump it forward?

Didn’t say that did I. So that’s it play it out from the back or the hoof?

A lot of the time the ‘lesser’ teams just stand off and don’t fall into the trap. Then you are left with O’Shea just standing with his foot on the ball. That said, defensively we’ve done okay, it’s the draws at home and not being able to break down teams effectively. Whilst we’ve scored quite a few goals it’s screwed by some heavy wins, too many games we’ve managed just a single goal. Personally I think we miss Nunez hugely (look how the ppg drop off without him). We don’t have anyone else with his vision or ability to fire accurate through balls. Taylor had a great chance on the break yesterday and his decision making was poor.
