Petition 09:12 - Mar 26 with 2444 viewsWarkOfTheTown

I imagine many supporters have made their feelings known by writing to the club over the last few days, yet the club have failed to respond. Mark Ashton could help put this sorry episode to bed, if he were to address the fans, and issue an apology.

What are people's thoughts on creating a petition on change.org to apply pressure? This us something which could be shared widely and get media attention.

I don't think we should let this lie.

Really? The club F****ed up and have been made to look a bit stupid but lets move on and get behind the team and club.

Making a petition will just bring more unwanted attention to the club. Please please just let it go, for the good of the club. This used to be a football forum - I miss those days.

Surely the idea is you simply create the petition and those who want to sign it, can sign it?

Or are you suggesting the creation of a petition to see if other people think its a good idea to create a petition?

I did sign that petition last week to get a picture of a pigeon added on new £20 notes.
And the one to ban home delivery companies like deliveroo from delivering alcohol.

If they have f***ed up, why don't they have the decency to admit it?

I get the impulse to want to move on but I think some people are wildly over-estimating the extent to which this is going to just go away.

There is *already* a section of the fan base that produces stickers with far right themes. There are *already* people who sing songs with far right themes. This is absolutely going to create a permission structure for that.

You can let it happen, say nothing and have that become the fan culture of the club - we become Reform FC forever. There are plenty of clubs who let that happen and will always be tarnished with those associations - People still call Real Madrid "Franco's club", no one thinks of Lazio without thinking of the Di Canio fascist salute, people still remember Millwall and Chelsea's associations with Combat 18. Farage and the club have taken the option to be just another "our fanbase isn't really political" club out of our hands.

Get a life , you’re dragging the club down even more and adding fuel to a fire that will distinguish itself in a few days.
I bet you send your wife downstairs to check for a burglar.

What specifically do you mean by "them" and "it" and what do you want as a result?

The real villain (Them) of the story is Farage and his team - they've already gotten away with it. There's no undoing the publicity they have gained.

The club itself? We know there's been some serious misjudgement. Maybe a resignation might be sought? If some explanation, or even apology from Ashton is what you want, I think we *might* get it, eventually - probably some time after the fact in a 'TownTV exclusive' interview. But it wont be enough to satisfy.

….Real Madrid.

When I think of Lazio I think of Paul Gascoigne.

When I think of Chelsea and Millwall I’m reminded of Danny Dyer and Tamar Hassan.

It’s a mistake. People make mistakes. That doesn’t mean we jump straight to trying to cancel someone or something. That culture is toxic.

I’m not here to tell anyone how to think or act, but I would ask what outcome people actually want from this. Does continuing to pile on now change what’s already happened? Or does it just create more division and unrest?

People can obviously be held to account, but there’s a difference between accountability and outrage for the sake of it. If every mistake leads straight to public pile-ons, we end up in a place where no one is allowed to get things wrong or learn from it.

Just my honest opinion, of course.

The last time I went to the Bernebeu (maybe 15 years ago) I saw a fairly wide range of fascist regalia, including swastikas, saw people doing fascist salutes in the crowd, Franquista flags and insignia. I'd prefer not to ever see similar as part of my Portman Road matchday experience.

Burnley flying that white lives matter plane overhead during the BLM movement.

Know that wasn't the club but a section of the fans, but mud still sticks.

Most people want some form of recognition from the club that the whole event has been a complete disaster, they're sorry that it happened, and steps have been put in place to make sure something like this can't happen again?

"If every mistake leads straight to public pile-ons, we end up in a place where no one is allowed to get things wrong or learn from it."

The club have not said they have made a mistake. They have not said they have got it wrong. They have not said they are learning from it.

I get what you’re saying, but does everything automatically needs a public apology. Also, would we be demanding the same response if it was a political figure people agreed with? I’m not convinced we would.

Clubs bring together people with all sorts of views. Expecting a statement every time something divides opinion feels like a slippery slope, rather than something that actually helps.

Maybe not the right choice of words, but the club has made a massive mistake, and they should own up to it. I'd like Mark Ashton to address the fans or issue a statement, which includes an apology for bringing shame upon our club. I know he won't use those words, but shame is what it is.
