| Whats missing in ashtons statement 21:32 - Mar 27 with 559 views | nodge_blue | He doesn't come out and say i made a mistake. It was wrong to invite farage and it was wrong to then double down with lies. And if there are mistruths in what is out there then this is a exactly what happened. I don't know. He has also probably put a huge dent in any chances of us all being as one this season. He can't just say i apologise and its all good. There was something missing for me. And it feels like someone needs ro step down as a result of this. | |

MarCashton - £urely he'£ only in it becau£e he love£ the beautiful game? He should have come out and said: "We would like to distance ourselves from all nasty, greedy, racists whose only aim is to sow division and hatred in society. We're proud to say that these kind of people are unwelcome here." But they aren't distanced, and they are welcomed. Football at this level is so full of dirty money, super-rich unethical owners and David Brent wannabees, isn't it? So sad. [Post edited 27 Mar 22:02]

And yet despite being both the Chsirman & CEO he is personally not accountable fir hus actions, or anyone else's atbthus club. He, in his eyes, is untouchable. And if the owners turn a blind eye to this , this club is done as far as credibility and integrity goes. It really IS that serious!

Well said Retro. Shudder to think what Sir Bobby would have made of this week's circus. The phrase "turning in your grave" was never more apt. This only ends one way now, and that's without MA.

I’m not sure if anyone would recognise if he was sincere or not. I don’t know the bloke and never will. What I want to know from them is how and why we arrived at a weeks worth of mess like this. What cave they were living in if they thought the club would not be literally used by Reform? I’d like to know why the club tried to put a lid on it and what it disputes with how this has been reported. Cover up and lies, if that is what it’s been, is over the line for me. Most important of all for me, what is the club going to do in the future to avoid this sort of thing ever happening again? How is it going to up its media, comms and all that stuff? I’ve seen truly professional comms people in action over about a year and I cannot imagine they’d ever allowed this dogs dinner week to have ever taken place or would at least have dealt with it properly. To offer something positive if it were me my action would be to state that no political parties will be allowed to do what these people did. It’s easy. No photo opportunities, shirts and that sort of stuff. If the CEO or club cat wants lunch with King Kong, fine. Not at Portman Rd. An individual is free to do as they please. If he wants to schmooze to get permission to develop the Cobbold stand, fine - but not in this way. Party Leaders have offices in London. Go and visit them. If slime like Farage want a lunch and little brown envelope as I believe Cameron and his Cabinet wanted and got for the Brightwell Lakes BT/Martlesham development fine - but not on my watch. It appalls me. This sort of Trumpesque way of doing stuff may be high fashion. But disgusts me. There are ways to do things and that ain’t it. My view is that Ashton’s apology is ok for what it is. But he needs to go a lot further and I believe so do Schwartz and the owners. If Ashton truly loves the club, then he won’t mind an active Chairman being put in place/reinstalled. O’Leary was very much about the takeover and living in the West Country I believe spent little time at the club. A restructure with an active Chairman and separate CEO is required now. I actually think Ashton’s done an awful lot right for the club in five years. Hes also got stuff wrong. That’s ok. People who do stuff get it wrong now and again, but rubbish comms booting long-standing fans out of the Cobbold Stand is not the same league as this public farce. It cannot happen again. Americans are not noted for charity, patience or anything beyond results. If I had to guess, Ashton will either be eased out or have his role diminished with a tighter leash. So be it. When it comes to it I want the club to be successful. Faces come and go and nobody is indispensable. We don’t go anywhere and as the life of the club are indispensable. The hierarchy need to remember that. That’s how I see it.
