I am not sure it was 500,000 - looking at the aerial photos and walking from back to front I think perhaps 200,000, but I know attendance is a bit of a game between organisers, police, media etc - and what really is important is visibility, solidarity, and expression, as you point out. That was in abundance, more than the Robinson march (and less angry) and in all its diversity and richness.
