I presume the club has already made their feelings clear to Abbott. I assume Sunderland have done the same with their local MP. But it is a possible Farage will play a part in the next government, so any chance to speak to him is not necessarily a bad thing. I have no issue with the meeting. I have no issue with the lunch. My issue is the way the whole thing became a promotional platform for a political party. | |

I've no issue with "citizen journalism" per se, but it seems odd to want to portray yourselves visually as a traditional mainstream media outlet, it seems the very antithesis of everything you are against.
They describe themselves as "a not-for-profit regional online newspaper supporting citizen journalism", all's good with that, but why call yourself a 'newspaper' the very description of the MSN that you oppose. Just call it what it is, a collection of blogs and personal opinions. There is literally nothing wrong with doing that.
Also, Tommy 10 names describes himself as a citizen journalist, so yes, I do have a problem with that term. | |

No bother. What I mean by it is this.
Citizen journalism is nothing more than personal opinion, using existing news reports as a basis.
I’ve no issue with that, but label it as opinion, not as legitimate journalism, particularly when you are “borrowing” the actual journalism from accredited journalists who have been through journalistic training.
That’s what I meant. The OP, probably not knowingly, presented this as though it was something ‘new’ and it plainly, upon reading, isn’t new at all. Just what we already know presented with the writers opinion.
As I’ve said, but for some bizarre reason not believed. I’ve no issue with the article, but I do have concerns around Citizen Journalism, who’s origins come from the right to delegitimise traditional news and create mistrust of traditional reporting that calls out the far right. You only need to see Trump’s assertion “You are fake news” to understand the importance of delegitimising traditional news sources to the likes of Trump/Putin etc etc.
I feel like I rambled but as I said, no issue with the article, just its presentation.
