A point at Norwich? 20:53 - Apr 6 with 3766 viewsTresBonne

Heard this on BBC Radio while driving home. Would you take a point at Carrow Road next week?

For me it was a Mick McCarthy 'wouldn't even get on the bus' situation, but Dad says we should never be going to CR thinking of getting a point.

Thoughts?

And why Royle didn't either? Too gung-ho and not risk-aware enough.

bit harsh on bfj; everton finished in the top 6 under him, he even managed oldham in the prem for 3 years, which seems crazy now!

To be fair, I can't be bothered to look up the stats but I am sure Mick managed in the Prem too. Probably not as successfully but I don't think he ever had a budget like Everton's either.

mick managed 15th, 17th and 3 relegations (as far as i could see), far more effective at the championship level

Absolutely. I have no truck with the idea he failed at Prem level but I would add the context of him never being given an opportunity like Everton. Then again, the fact Royle was has as much to do with the entertainment of the way he set his teams up as the connection he had with the club.

For us, both approaches failed for different reasons. And, in a sense, both were fairly close to succeeding too. Both of them took us to the play offs and in difficult circumstances for both of them.

bfj earned the everton gig with his work at oldham, was an excellent stint.

each have their pros and cons for sure, but always have a particularly soft spot for royle after he put us back on our feet during the administration disaster

A point at Norwich? I'd like a pint at Norwich first but other than the ground I cannot see it unfortunately! As for the points then it's 3 please.

Nah, we got to play to win.

They are due a loss. We haven't won two in a row in a while.

If we leave with just a point it's no shame or disaster.

But not accepting it in advance, thank you. I want the three.

"not won two in a row in a while."

Unless you mean against them, we won 3 on the trot 6 matches ago. Although 2 away on the trot does take you back to November.

Personally I'd never " take a point " anywhere. It's negative thinking before you've even started. It might turn out that a point is what you get ( or less! ), but I'd never just settle for it before hand.

We have the chance of doing the double over them. As with every game a team should cross the white line at the start of the match with every intention of winning.

Fate is a cruel mistress and they have massively been overdue a doubling

I feel like we have been cursed there since the hand of Haynes!

Which would hopefully have the effect of breaking Millwall and Boro who will clearly see Norwich as a problematic fixture for us.

weirdly, this one seems to have the least riding on it.

boro and soton are big games as it could be a trial run for the play-offs (and of course beating boro would have a massive boost for finishing above them)

the other 4 are expected wins, so the pressure will be huge

that said, i'd always go for the 3 points rather than settling for 1!

No way, they are not that good. We are the better team. We have to double them this year.

Me neither. It would be a decent result but there's no way I'd take it now. I make a win, a draw and a defeat broadly equally likely outcomes. On that basis it would be an average 1.33 points if we played the game 10 times, so I'm not going to take 1.

Plus the satisfaction of doing the double, beating them on their own patch as we march on to promotion and end their season is far too satisfying a prospect to not have a swing at.

I'd absolutely love to hear a full away end singing 'WE'RE ON OUR WAY, WE'RE ON OUR WAY' as they sit there crying.
