Have we gone under the radar a bit? 21:56 - Apr 6 with 1113 viewsDubtractor

Obviously we had all the hype in the Summer, big money etc, bookies favourites. But after a slow start we've been playing catch up ever since, with all the chat about Boro and Coventry, with Millwall the outsider.

Even our own fanbase has been writing us off all season.

But we've quietly gone about our business, picking up consistent points every month of the season, not wobbling when we lose or draw a game and usually winning the next game.

It hasn't had the thrill of the 23/24 season, but that was a once in a generation season to be honest, and we won't see anything like it again for a while.

COYB!

I can't help feeling that the game (s) in hand have had an impact on this

Completely. Bar a handful of games we have been very stable and if we continue that for another seven we'll all be very happy. If (still a big if) we make it I think history will look back far more kindly on the players and management than many have during the season. I also think it's a wondrous thing, after the dirge we went through for almost two decades post-2005, that we are in our third white-knuckle automatic promotion chase in four years. People should be excited.

Exactly! This is the good bit of watching football, if people can't enjoy this bit then I don't if football is the sport for them.

I think some of it is the perception, with us being outside the top 2 all season outside of a few hours. Also Boro have basically been in relegation form, so they were favorites before this terrible run.

I still can’t believe that we’re spending millions on individual players - after so many years under Evans, I’m still expect our marquee signing to be some journeyman striker who played for Liverpool fifteen years ago.

You are right about looking back on it with more fondness if we are promoted. I think that's true of the 23/24 season too. Its great looking back on it knowing what happened, but at the time i remember it being really nerve-wracking.

The perception of this season is strange. It still doesn't feel like weve got going yet despite having so few games left. It doesn't feel like we are on an 8 game unbeaten run. It doesn't feel like weve been that convincing in games but seem to find a way to grind it out.

Today could be pivotal with all the results going our way. Lets hope we keep grinding it out.

Solidly and unspectacularly living KM’s mantra of not getting too high or too low. Saw someone on Twitter earlier bemoaning the fact that you could count the number of big statement wins we’ve had this season on one hand. Football fans will never ever be happy. Even though here we are just a few wins away from being able to celebrate a promotion, at home, in the sunshine, for the third time in four seasons.

Well our striker cost 1.5M in league one and is a loanee from Como. We need a long look at our processes on that side of things if we go up this time.

Absolutely no guarantees that it will be sunny.

12 points out of these last games should be enough. It's more than just in our hands... we actually need to throw it away now to miss out on promotion.
