It’s a good result 14:29 - Apr 25 with 921 viewsSouthBucksBlue

We had to win one of the last three games and QPR at home was always the most feasible. WBA are a well drilled in form side and a draw means the Southampton result is now irrelevant (unless of course we win).

This, absolutely. It's results that matter at this stage, nothing else. We now have to win 1 from 2, which is so much better than having to win 3 from 4 tricky games, which is what we were looking at a couple of games ago.

I'm really upbeat and can't really understand some of the negative comments on here.

Hello, new (old) poster here. Agree, it’s a good point and because of the goal difference, worth a bit more. My only concern is the current standard in the Prem. I can’t see any players here who stand out as being good enough. It looks like a complete overhaul is needed to me, £250m might do it.

As someone else said on another thread, let's get this season over with first before worrying about the next one.

Welcome back to the forum btw.

No, no, no. How dare you demonstrate so much common sense and an entirely pragmatic assessment of just what was needed today.

We should beat everyone 8-0 every game.
And then, even if we do, the players need to cuddle babies and help old ladies across the road to be more likeable.

This is the best manager, producing most sustained period of quality football this club has seen in a generation, backed by the very worst set of fans I've known in 50 years of following Town.

Truly awful.

Worry about next season when/if it happens tbh - Sunderland were utter garbage for most of the last 10 games of the season and were not the best side in the play off final either.

Fwiw, I think we've been no more than ok to good this season and it would be a hell of an achievement to get promoted with McKenna having to totally rebuild. It's been like trying to learn to fly a plane whilst building the plane in the air!

It's a good result because it leaves us needing 1 win in the final 2 games, regardless of what any other team may do.

Yes, worry about this one first but who honestly enjoyed last season. Getting beaten regularly is no fun. With Lampard’s name and connections he will attract good players. We will not be so lucky and last year’s embarrassment will put off many potential useful players. My fear is the number that are needed, which hat they’re going to be pulled out from and where the money comes from to pay for them. We should admit that we’ve ridden our luck in a lot of games recently and if we played the season again from scratch we’d probably be about mid table. Massive overhaul needed in my opinion.

It’s better than losing if we’re clutching at straws. We have to be better though.

Clutching at straws?!

It literally took us BACK SECOND with a better goal difference and Millwall having one game left to play. Not only that it takes us 4 above our opponent Tuesday.

Ffs people really aren’t very bright.

Thanks for posting this the sharp end of the season is always really ridiculously tough. We've put ourselves in a good position regardless of how we've played. I'd rather be in this position than relying on others to lose. We've spent a season largely playing against a low block but have found a way. I'm now only worried about the next 2 fixtures and 3 points get it done. Next season isn't even a consideration at this stage.

I'm sure everyone recognises that a huge overhaul will be needed for any team promoted to the premier league. If we get there, hopefully we'll be in a better place than when we were promoted last time and will have learnt some valuable lessons, ie to widen the recruitment net beyond the Championship. Most players won't be put off the opportunity to play in the PL if the terms are right, which they should be with the undoubted riches that promotion would bring.

Yes you’re right if you only look at the table. I don’t see how anyone could watch the game and think we don’t need to improve. It was a poor performance.

Bloody hell Swansea, you're normally much more balanced than this. Results and the table are the only things that matter at this stage of the season. We need 1 win in the final 2 games. It's firmly in our hands. I'd much rather be in our position than those of Millwall, Southampton or Middlesbrough. One more win and it's done.

Could care a less about the performance at this stage. I come to expect it away from home unfortunately, was all about getting out of dodge today and ensuring we are 2nd going into the last day.

We should beat QPR and then it’s mission accomplished and a half of this lot won’t be involved next year anyway.

Exactly this. Going into today we needed a win and a draw from three games, now we need a win from two. I’d say that’s a good result. Could be better but could be a lot worse.

Happy to worry about next season when this one finishes.

That's still tough. I think winning today was our best chance, not that we can't still do it, but leaving it to the last day to get 3 points rather than 1 (if we don't beat Southampton) is a weaker position than the one we were in this morning.

It's not a bad result, for the reason you suggest, but not a good one either, for the reasons above.

why is away to wba (10 unbeaten, 2nd in the form table), easier than qpr at home?

Because it's not the last game! If there's a red card or a bad performance, or a bag of nerves, or a low block on the last game we will look back and it will clearly not be a good result.

I said it wasn't a bad result.

How many players will accept sub par wages to sign for Coventry because of the bonus of playing under Lampard?
Not many, although he might dredge up the odd loan player rom Chelsea.
