Leaving aside his policy position, it strikes me that one issue Streeting has is that he is yet another London MP.
And whilst the party has had quite a few Scots as leader, and a couple of Welshmen, only Harold Wilson was a northern Englishman.
And with Sunderland and Newcastle now having only one Labour councillor, it strikes me that Streeting just isn't going to cut the mustard in terms of personal appeal north of London.
In this sense, I don't think that's an issue with Burnham who does seem to cut through in the north. [Post edited 12 May 8:31]

To me it's gone beyond Streeting leading with Rayner deputy, something that didn't help Starmer.
Both in any event have their issues, namely, Mandelson and stamp duty respectively.
In my view, the only hope of some sort of turnaround is Burnham. He's a northerner, he's a good communicator, he's slightly to the left of Labour Together and he can rightly claim he has had nothing to do with the shambles that Labour Together have produced.
Of course, the argument against him is that he went AWOL during the Corbyn government but I don't think that is something that would cut through.
And were he to become leader, I might well rejoin the party because it would signify to me the end of factionalism. I did after all vote for him in 2015 because I thought he was the candidate on offer most likely to win an election.

Beth Rigby has just quoted a Labour MP saying "colleagues will not accept another London leader".
It looks like supporters of Streeting are forcing things, and the Machiavelli in me makes me wonder if they will somehow manage, by acting precipitously, to produce a contest between Starmer (or Mahmood) and Streeting. [Post edited 12 May 9:04]

I’m not sure it would be sensible to appoint someone, as Prime Minister, who can be given the run around by Junior Doctors.
How big is the disconnect between Labour MPs and party membership? How many MPs will bother to consult their constituency members before giving support to a contender? |  |

edit. Actually thought about your post whilst running and I think you may have misunderstood what I actually posted. I wasn’t stoking past arguments with Doly.
Stokie is probably the only person who would get the meaning in my post as it was he who coined the phrase "doing a Dolly" years ago which he said meant asking the same bloody question again and again when it has been answered ad infinitum.
I've been asked and answered the voting for Corbyn question on at least every thread about Labour for the best part of a decade. Hence Stokie was "doing a Dolly"
