Well Burnham is the only health secretary to ever privatise an NHS hospital so he isn't afraid to make unpopular decisions if he thinks they are right. That says, he seems to have reinvented himself since becoming Mayor so who knows whet he believes now.
I like Streeting I think he is the most statesmanlike. Whoever wins needs to get Angela Rayner back in the cabinet to unite the labour party.
That is just my opinion as somebody who has only been voting Labour for the past 5 years. |

Thanks. I do like Rayner. I know she made a mistake, but it did look like just a mistake to me. She’s another one who seems to genuinely care about people and we need a lot more of that (imo).

I've seen it mentioned in various sources including Paul Holden's book "The Fraud: Keir Starmer, Morgan McSweeney, and the Crisis of British Democracy" but how about this one?
In October 2023, Politico noted that "nearly all the MPs credited with building Labour Together since 2017 — Reeves, Wes Streeting, Shabana Mahmood, Steve Reed, Bridget Phillipson, Lucy Powell and Lisa Nandy — now sit in Starmer's top team."

Well, it might.
Starmer’s weaknesses are that he’s not got an ideological direction, is a very poor communicator, has bad political instincts and hates having to give a lead to his cabinet or intervene in disputes.
Other candidates may well be better at some or all of these. Streeting has much more direction (frankly all MPs seem to) and is the best communicator in the Labour Party. Whether he’s up to leading a government is obviously unknown. But as Hague said today … governing is hard, but not as hard as Starmer is making it look. | | | |

I actually think they’re doing some good stuff and making progress. But this is politics. They can’t do a few good things they barely mention whilst simultaneously pissing off everyone and expect to make any headway. Too many mistakes, too disjointed, no vision, not much conviction.
There was a cracking post from Clive Lewis yesterday on X. It’s only one post, but it showed more vision and conviction than we’ve seen from Starmer in 2 years. It clearly goes back before 2017 but that date is significant because it is was when McSweeney got involved and changed its nature.
And this appeared on the Labour Together website about 3 years ago when they broke cover. It was subsequently taken down when Labour Together became controversial.

Not sure I believe it myself. These things are often briefed by the (in this case) Starmer team to make their purported challenges either move too soon, or express their loyalty.
