| Boro going up would be a complete farce! on 17:16 - May 20 by Jon_456 | You keep going on and on about Boro not earning their chance to be in the final. Don’t know how many times it needs to be said. They weren’t given a fair chance to do so when their opponent cheated. |
They caught the guy and spent the first half of the leg they were spied on missing from 6 yards out, same as v Charlton, Bristol City, Pomey et al. Southampton should be punished, Boro should not be rewarded, Hull should not be screwed over.

Stop banging on about Boro's misses, it's irrelevant to spygate!

Exactly. Most journalists have pointed out that the results of the spying are irrelevant, it's the act that is the issue and for that they receive a punishment. Everything else is whatabouterry. SB

In truth Regis le Bris was playing the games as friendlies once 5th Spot was know with a bout 5 games left (which when you think about it is somewhat incredible). TBH they weren't that great in the actual playoffs. Certainly rode their luck. But boy have they cashed in or what!

The Saints punishment massively benefits Middlesborough by default and disadvantages Hull. That much is obvious and clearly a problem. Let's just hope Hull do it for sake of the game. Saints cheated throughout the season most likely, but who gets the net benefit from that in the games they were spied against in the past? They get a deduction next season, certainly hasn't helped say Wrexham if they done it to them in a huge game for the shakeup of the playoffs. Quite interesting to me that only a game they lost and a team that got promoted has come to light so far...

That’s not consistent though is it. If the act of spying is severe enough to warrant kicking Southampton out of the play offs, then surely the disadvantage Boro faced in that game is enough to say they weren’t given a fair opportunity to progress?

If your water provider mismanages your data, they will be fined by the ICO, but it’s highly unlikely that money will make its way to your back pocket. There were two parties, legally, in this case. The EFL, and Southampton. Boro were not a named party.

Does it disadvantage Hull? I suspect Hull are quite pleased they are playing Boro rather than Southampton. Even more so a Boro that haven't been training every day. There isn't a perfect solution here, two independent panels have now said this is a decent solution so we just have to go with it. The points penalty is different to the playoff penalty, they are different competitions. I suspect more will come out and if they are docking two points per instance then Southampton could be in real trouble next year. SB [Post edited 21 May 7:55]
