Bournemouth European Stadium 23:09 - May 20 with 2050 viewsurbanpenguin

This is interesting, in relation to the undertakings Ipswich had to do two years ago to turn a (sub) League One stadium into a Premier League one.

https://www.theguardian.com/fo

Bournemouth have done incredibly to be on the brink of Europe, but the way the game has been built around mega-clubs is present here, just as it was with Ipswich climbing through a league no longer built around changeability and more around security for the few.

I dislike Mark Ashton. I would like him to leave. However, the amount of off-pitch work Ipswich had to undertake that mid-season should not be underestimated, and while most of his work I think is pretty standard expectations of any CEO (and I am one, so kind of get what it means to juggle infrastructure, daily issues, legal, HR etc etc, albeit on a smaller scale) the work before playing Liverpool at home was a LOT. But he can still eff off after Farage-gate.

Anyway. Having just said on another thread how annoying it is for English clubs to win in Europe, good luck to Bournemouth - I didn't see Ipswich's first season in Europe but I fondly remember going to Milan and following from a distance the other games 20-odd years ago, their fans will have a blast.

It will be interesting to see how Europe impacts them. As we know all too well, if you don't have the squad depth to balance both, it can be really damaging for a team to juggle both league and Europe.

That said, I hope their fans enjoy it. Bournemouth seem to have been incredibly well run from the boardroom and I hope their journey foreshadows our own future.

I think I remember Town having to upgrade our floodlights in the 1970s thanks to a UEFA directive.

If they don't complete the works, I assume they'll have to move the European games to the nearest compliant stadium - Southampton?

I know a few seasons back, Union Berlin had to host European matches at the Olympiastadion, much to Hertha's chagrin. They even went as far as to cover up the entirety of the stadium's blue running track with red sheeting:

We had to do the same when Burley’s Boys qualified. Seem to remember they were not up to standard for the first game and Town were fined by UEFA.

So Portman Road stadium was equivalent to an average League 2 stadium before the recent upgrades and tarting up. I really do not think so. Can you show me your logic ?

Actually Bournemouth do well to average 11,000 crowds as the rest of the town are in care homes aren't they.

Bournemouth have done remarkably well to be where they are. Building solidly and are now an established PL team - well done to them.

But during the last ten seasons they have been in the PL for eight of them and were in receipt of parachute payments for the two seasons they spent in the championship.

I know that they aren’t looking for sympathy but the fact that their stadium isn’t up to standard in terms of facilities is quite embarrassing - pretty sure if they were admitted to the PL now, their stadium would also not be up to standard.

When you look at our stadium , and what we had to do over a summer period to play in the PL...I wonder how the hell Luton were allowed to play games in the PL at Kenilworth Rd? Its barely League Two standard.

They achieved most of that by demolishing the 'conservatory' stand, and knocking up a low-rent affair that was designed with the criteria in mind, rather than fans/capacity.
