| Reform's response to this is actually disgusting. on 14:20 - May 22 by tivo | I know it's far out, but Labour, Lib Dem & Greens really need to go into the next election with a pact ffs. |
Labour are virtually impossible to do a pact with In my limited experience they hate Greens and Libs equally, seeing every vote for those 2 parties as somehow a vote stolen from Labour I believe it is hard wired into the Labour Party to never engage in any pact, never co-operate or do a deal with any other party.....it might actually been mentioned in their rule book IIrc they are mandated to stand in every election to offer their supporters the chance to vote for Labour and only Labour I am mildly interested to see what kind of electoral changes Mr Burnham is favouring..... some meaningful type of PR would literally change everything.... if he prevails in the by-election, if he succeeds Mr Starmer and if he actually has the cajones to put something through Parliament

| Reform's response to this is actually disgusting. on 09:58 - May 22 by SuperKieranMcKenna | But that’s just nonsense as usual not backed up by any facts. We don’t have austerity now - UK government spending (%GDP) is higher now than at any point since the post war period. Kind of proves my point that some are more happy undermining Labour than Reform, repeating made up stuff like that is only going to help populists get into power. |
Centists really cannot admit that they were wrong can they?! That's just total nonsense I'm afraid. We absolutely still have austerity. %GDP doesn't mean anything when you consider where the money goes and that it's been rising post war anyway. Current Labour government is to the right of Cameronite stuff. What was their plan for rescuing the country? Nothing more than hoping for growth. Remember that they wrecked the party to implement this shambles. We've not even scratched the surface of the Labour Together stuff. The only people Starmer appealed to was a very small sliver of the prof managerial class who are the only small group that the party now represents it's been captured. The part of Attlee and Bevan. An utter disgrace to their names. It was not 1997. It's still not 1997.

When I was secretary of our constituency Labour party we entered into an arrangement for a local by-election whereby the Greens stood aside and campaigned for the Labour candidate. But it all had to be hush/hush because if the national party had got wind of it, we'd have been in trouble. From recollection, there was no such problems for the Greens. Sadly, it didn't work because the Tory vote was so strong, but it was an area where activists for the Greens, Lib Dems and Labour got on really well, and realised we had more in common than divided us. Where did I say that? Slightly bizarre comment to be honest.

"What was their plan for rescuing the country? Nothing more than hoping for growth." Well, short of taxing wealth, that is surely the only hope? [Post edited 22 May 18:06]

Very interesting; did your Labour Party give a green "clear run" at any election as a payment? My understanding is that is when the brown stuff would hit the ventilation system When I was involved in Green Party stuff many moons ago, the reaction from almost all Labour members was one of hatred..... "How dare these upstarts steal our votes " The Lib Dems were slightly friendlier, but super-flaky on environmental issues.

You're halfway there! And hoping for growth isn't a very impressive governmental strategy. You've got to create it. They thought it just happens like in 1997.

By breaking with the neoliberal consensus that has eaten away at the country for 40 years. It's going to eat the middle class now which they don't like so we are maybe 15 years from a tipping point How? Invest in public works, build, invest in infrastructure and industry. Reorganisation of tax. The ultra wealthy don't spend they just hoover up assets. Redistribute just a little and it will stimulate the economy. Invest in people and areas. Take some of the chips off the city and place them elsewhere. We can do it. But it means that some people sitting in 700k houses might have to accept a slightly different world.

In many areas of the country, living in a house valued at 700k isn’t a sign of wealth.

typical reform, use them as propaganda and then shut them down as a "cost-cutting"/"anti dei" move when they get in power

Except the previous instance I presume you are comparing to was clearly very much by invite. This bit is quite telling too: "a Daily Mail journalist who was part of Farage’s entourage ..."

The lack of respect they have for almost everyone is breathtaking at times. Just a pure coincidence that they popped in when Burnham was on there. [Post edited 22 May 19:09]
