This is a nice little look at the man and story behind the song.

Yeah that is quite fascinating. I had a feeling that there was a background story like that, but I had never heard it. Well done Gerry. Retro music is really cool and 'ted' just seems to work.

Thanks for that.

I have to say, I don't think I was actually aware of the song when I first started going to PR as a teenager in the mid-eighties, or as a ST holder in my 20's and 30's - probably only noticed it in the last 15-20 years or so.

It has had a resurgence of late, and in my mind is infinitely better and more interesting than Singing the Blues and its turgid Status Quo-esque slow clap-along.

I only knew of it from a compilation album of football songs I bought in the late 80s - Flair 1989, which I still have. I don’t remember it being sung at games until the time frame you say.

Similar story here - I've been going to PR since 1983 but don't recall hearing it sung by the fans until the last 15ish years.

I want to say I heard it played on the PA at some point years ago, as it somehow seemed familiar when it came back in, but I can't be certain.

Either way, I've made sure my son has learned the words and while we don't get to many games, we both belted it out vs QPR.

It's a really fun song. It's the kind of song that schools should be singing in assembly once a week or so to really embed it in the Suffolk culture rather than the same semi-religious ones they do.

I said for years, well in fact decades that this should be the " anthem " Never thought it would happen after all that time, but what do you know? They say patience is a virtue and I can only imagine Gerry is smiling somewhere!
