When could you see a Town player playing for England again? 11:51 - May 23 with 1679 viewsringwoodblue

Richard Wright was the last Town player to play for the senior England team back in 2000. When will it happen again do you think and will it be a young player who comes up through the academy or someone we buy? Moreover, do you care?

My concern if we go the Sunderland recruitment route is that we will have very few if any English players so this significantly reduces the chances.

Leif Davis is probably the most likely to be given a go in a friendly.

I thought he would get a cap but he struggled defensively in the prem. Not I possible though as has real quality.

If Greaves has a great season he has potential. Philogene has the talent but will have to step up and Be consistent.

But they are are all long shots really. Delap was a bit unlucky not to get a call up.

I’ll be very surprised if Philogene ever gets an England callup.

Davis is most likely too.

Leif's probably most likely of the current squad but I think he would need a real injury crisis to get a look in. He's behind Spence, Hall, Lewis-Skelly, O'Reilly, maybe still Tyreek Mitchell and Luke Shaw.

Think our most likely next call-up is a player who isn't currently at the club.

John Stones. We'll buy him before the start of the WC, thus he will be our next England player.

I dont see LD anywhere near the England set up at this time (unfortunately). If Liam Delap couldnt force his way into contention for a friendly last season we are miles away from anyone being close, i cant see any of the current squad getting there.

Yes, as Lewis Hall hasn't made the world cup squad, you'd think that Leif is still some way off at present. He'd need to have a really good season in the PL, which he might of course have, but he understandably found it tough defensively last time round.

Think the problem is that English players aren’t in short supply, but are incredibly overpriced so I can’t see us signing a future England player any time soon. Kalvin Phillips might be the closest we get for a while! Wonder where he goes from here, 3 poor loan spells, one of which was dropping down to the championship. His career is going the way of Dele Alli.

The problem is we had two edge potentials and had to sell both! It will be interesting to see whether we sign anyone with the future ceiling potential of OH or LD this summer.

Appreciate he was on loan, but David Stockdale actually got a call up whilst at Town in 2011.

Or, you recruit well like Bournemouth (Scott, Hill) and end up with players who you improve enough to qualify.

Trailing vapour since 1999.
