Following on from the other anthem thread in the footy section, how about some alternative anthems for countries.

Looking for some Welsh lineage so I can sing this until my throat explodes
A fabulous song. Immediately Wales lost their World Cup play-off against Bosnia, this song came blaring out at the stadium to lift the spirits of the defeated Welshies.
Slightly ironic the first line of the chorus "ry'n ni yma o hyd" means "we are still here" though

England - common people Ireland - My Lovely Horse Scotland - 500 miles Wales - it’s not unusual Northern Ireland - teenage kicks
Good shouts! Why anthems have to be these turgid tunes about some perceived loyalty to countries and their ‘values’ I have no idea. Great back when you’re blindly going off to war or whatever, but not now. ‘Town Called Malice’ sums it up nicely.

Any anthem written in the past will have lyrics that can be questioned. Call it satire, others would claim one of hope.
As one of the first nations to create a welfare system, seems appropriate you label him a visionary socialist.
and there's no need for the petty xenophobia. It really says a lot more about you.
What on earth are you on about?
Petty xenophobia? I'm White English. Xenophobia means fear of foreigners, or, literally, fear of the others. I'm talking about White English people singing it, and I am a White English person.
Just amused that those who often sing it loudest don't have a clue as to William Blake's politics, or what the words actually mean.

You use the word Xenophobia completely incorrectly, and somehow that puts me in the wrong?
You have a strange view of the world!
No. You, by saying 'little Englanders' were either xenophobic and expressed your prejudice by said expression, or, a condescending toff. At least we know now.

I went to a State School Comprehensive. Wrong again.
"Little Englander" has been used to describe those who were Anti-EU for decades.
