I think we need to upgrade our set piece coach.

We are not going to have a lot of possession. So every free kick and every corner is going to have to count. Our goals from set pieces ratio isn’t great. Do you think KM will be looking to get somebody better in first this season?

Leeds were pretty good at them, stayed up.

Somone just needs to teach Dara and Jacob to head on target.... they actually get on the end of a lot of corners, but very rarely hit the target with headers...

it worked for leeds, 33% of their goals were from set pieces (more than arsenal), and twice as many set piece goals as burnley

Could be Cov's competitive advantage over us next season, they were really threatening from set pieces. Agree with Glassers, we're nowhere near dangerous enough from them.

Just from memory, I think our initial delivery for our attacking set pieces wasn't always the best; how you set up tactically to attack those balls becomes redundant if the delivery is poor, so we'll need to improve on both.

At the other end, we conceded 13 goals from non-penalty set pieces last season in the Prem - although there are plenty of factors other than goalkeeping to take in to consideration, Palmer conceded 10 of those in his 13 starts; Muric easily the best of the 3 keepers at claiming high balls into the box rather than punching, so hopefully we find a new keeper with that in their locker to take some pressure off when we're defending set pieces.

We need a sporting director that's tuned in to the present day transfer market. We can't afford to have a similar transfer window to the last 4. The market is way too sophisticated for one man band MA...his contacts and knowledge are way way too inferior for a modern day Premier League club.

Maybe McKenna sees it as part of his role. A huge part of being elite is knowing your strengths and mitigating your weaknesses.

Ashton isn’t very good at that, especially around recruitment.., not sure about McKenna but an environment where he focusses on coaching and things like the above is essential .., it’s probably why he’ll leave ..; we don’t seem to have been great at building an elite structure around McKenna and his coaching has papered over a lot of cracks.

Time will tell, but a manager with global reach and networks who brings his own staff who are way above what we have is possible if McKenna leaves, and Ashton ‘gets it’.

But they are doing as instructed because they are pulling the ball back for others to score. The issue is we are not getting to the knock back. Dara does this sucessfully for Ireland all the time. It may well be a better plan to mix it up and go directly for goal the odd time.

Another thing we will need is pace. EWe will most likely set up to defend and hit teams on the counter attack.

Set pieces and pace will be key imo.

Have to agree with Glasgow Blue, we need to make the most of the few opportunities we get next season. This means making more use of corners and free kicks. If we had a proper specialist last season the league would have been won by March.
