We've got more chance of getting Knudsen than Knutsen. 12:24 - Jun 12 with 1219 viewsBlaggers12

He's way too old for the sort of manager that Ashton wants. Ashton will want someone who initially will be a yes man, rather than someone who is a big fish in their pond, such as at Bodo/Glimt. I like the look of him however, who obviously had plans and strategies to pick off some of Europe's big names in the Champions League. He might give us that nouse to pick off points in games that our previous style of play didn't allow us to.

I just don't see it for him at Ipswich though.

We can offer him the chance to tackle the Premier League though, which may be of interest to him to further his career outside of Norway

Is it Ashton alone making the decision? No equivalent of an executive search committee around to advise and bounce ideas off?

Why this constant sniping at Ashton. Really tiring. Who was it that appointed McKenna? Was he a yes man?

I expect the chairman and CEO both to have significant input.

Oh.

Ashton appointed Nigel Pearson at Bristol City, albeit just on a contract till the end of the season (it was extended after Ashton had left).

I find it highly unlikely that the ownership flew in on Wednesday for a goodbye cuddle with Kieran.

Successful football coaches/ managers tend to be very single minded and focussed - in no way do they tend to be ‘yes men’.

Plus, youth is no guarantee of progressiveness. If someone is good age is irrelevant.

Hi age is a real positive! If he came and did well, hes less likely to be poached by the big boys as the next big thing.

I agree, he's always preferred a younger coach but then so has the whole league. Knutsen would immediately be the oldest manager in the Prem.

However, there is something that feels quite Ipswich about him.

He speaks well, he's been fiercely loyal to his project, he's happy with a quieter life up in the Arctic Circle etc etc

Then you add in the fact that he's clearly got an underdog side hugely over performing in Europe and you have a very interesting proposition.

I agree. There's something very Ipswich about him. Like it that he shows tactical nous in Europe but also likes to play some free flowing stuff. We are going to need to adapt to the opposition every game this year, but because so many mid level teams are playing in Europe this year, we will have chances to nick points, and we will have entire weeks to train for specific games.
