Recruitment 15:30 - Jun 13 with 1089 viewspingu67

How much of a say would km have had in recruitment? We would surely have been a fair way down the road in bringing players in but with a new manager that is all now potentially going to be ripped up as they may want totally different players to the ones previously identified?

Also a new manager will surely want time to assess the squad which would potentially delay bringing players in at a time when we really need to bring in 10 new players and time is precious at a time when recruitment is key

Considering ashton has known for a couple of weeks plus KM mentioned it after promotion youd imagine alot of approaches have been club lead.

Not disagreeing, but new managers have so much data and video of every players - not just from matches but from training too. Very different to the old days!

Ashton has often said Kieran has the last say on transfers, which has always suggested to me that he's allowed a "no" if he wants, but otherwise I imagine a lot of it is club led.

McKenna spoke about players having certain qualities. It might be that he said I want a CM who is willing to run all day, doesn't give the ball away, can tackle and break up play, add some leadership to the squad and is robust enough for a brutal Championship season. Then he gets a list to look into on the scouting database etc.

In comes Matusiwa, etc.

I'm inclined to think that it's quite club led.

Take the link with this young Italian lad - our interest certainly hasn't been led by the manager.

The club (and the new data arm) would presumably have been building an extensive database of players - stats, scouting reports, videos, etc. That would then be used to produce an overview of potential candidates based on what the manager wants for various positions, for them to review.

I’d also expect the other coaches will have opinions on some suitable targets.

The new manager should be able to pick this up, and run with it pretty quickly when they arrive, with the main difference being their input on which to pursue further.
