The club seem brilliant at operating under the radar.. 18:03 - Jun 15 with 2938 viewsTwoKnightsInIpswich

I'm sure many of us love hearing about players and managers we're linked with as it gives us something to me moan about. However, I do love the fact that the club do all their business on their terms. There are very few media leaks or real "in the know" posters and it gives the impression that we're a serious club that conducts business properly rather than in the glare of the spotlight.

Long may it continue

Poll: In the two horse race to be Town's manager, who do you want?

I agree but I also don't understand why it would make any difference if it was known. I actually think it would add another layer of detail they can give to the supporters a little bit like the NFL, NBA, MLB.

Lets say the club had publicised that the shortlist was the top 5 in the betting:

- Brian Barry-Murphy
- Knutsen
- O'Neill
- Rosenier
- OGS

Would it make any difference?

Yep, wouldn't totally surprise me if it turns out to be another case of " Who's he? ". All will be revealed and I trust very soon, as it needs to be!

Yeah class.

That’s exactly what we all want, make English football more like American sports…

Read the room.

Bloody hell, I suggested we add a layer of transparency to the hiring of coaches!
Not the introduction of quarters, a full draft system, the removal of relegation and promotion and a coach for each position.

You don't think that would be interesting knowing whose in for what job?

Personally no..... much room for hijacking and guzumping in footy and I like the rumor mill and the guessing and all that comes with it

Poll: Will Phil ever confirm we are actually close on a signing ever again

I agree that might be an issue but with agents constantly talking and wanting to get the best deal for their clients, the hijacking and guzumping happens anyway, we just rarely know about it.

Thats why Romano and co get fed so much information, to ensure everyone knows the situation.

This would never work. Can you imagine if, for example, one manager on the list was unanimously disliked by fans and another was wildly popular. If we knew who those people were then there would be uproar if the "wrong one" got appointed and the new manager would be up against it from day one. Even more so than if there wasn't a list and we'd just appointed an unpopular manager

Also we have no idea how a manager interviews, so again having a list makes something public that only tells a small part of the story. Best to keep these things as close to the decision makers as possible

Also, it takes about 2 weeks to appoint a new manager.

Just wait ffs. There is already too much football on tv and in the media without a running commentary on this type of thing.

I appreciate your opinion but that all adds to interesting discussion and debate. When a job comes up in US sports, there are always more popular candidates vs the unpopular 'been there done that' candidates and that debate rages throughout the process.

However that exists wether there is transparency or not? We have no idea who is interviewing for Town but there are a whole host of them who would be up against it from day one if hired due to their credentials/ past. Gary O'Neill, Liam Rosenier, OGS etc would all have very little rope from the fan base.

I personally don't think the interview process makes any difference to the level transparency. The only part that is interesting for fans/ media is understanding who is in the process.

It exists if there's transparency or not, but would be amplified 1000x if there was a list made public

Image if we got Rosenior knowing that Thomas Frank was also in the running, versus the situation now where we all believe that Frank is taking a break.

It could be that Rosenior interviewed way better than Frank and that's why he was chosen, but fans would never accept that

Because a couple of those managers are still in employment with other clubs - it would be completely unprofessional for a club to basically say ‘we maybe want your manager…but we also maybe want someone’s other manager as well’.

Plus, other managers may well not want to be publicly named as that’ll just correct a lot of negative publicity at their own clubs.

What happens if none of the 5 come off? Not a great message to send out that your eventual manager is the best of the rest

Poll: Our final position

It's just saying the quiet part out loud though ...

It's just one case but Palace wanted our manager, Brighton wanted our manager, Fulham wanted our manager and they also said .... maybe we want someone’s other manager as well.

And in the Brighton and Fulham's case it was very heavily publicised throughout the process.

And in both cases Mckenna spoke to them and that was also well known.

Was there any lasting negativity or murmurings of unprofessionalism? Not that I can recall.

Then you'd create a bigger shortlist that would allow you to be flexible to avoid that. 5 was just an example.

I'd argue it would also bring another level of accountability for the people running Football clubs.

You'd very quickly work out who was good at their job and who wasn't.
