Is this the type of appointment we should be interested in? As fans, are we underlooking a manager like Gerrard?
What I believe is that he would bring an elite mentality into the club, he would handle the media well like McKenna did, he would be a superior figure for players already at the club and for potential incomings. I imagine he would bring in an experienced back room team who like Gerrard, have been in high pressure environments and experienced the big occasions.

I would suggest that if he’s serious about management he needs to go to the championship and rebuild his managerial reputation- a bit like what Frank Lampard has done.
Gerrard did very well at Rangers and ok in his first season at Villa but then the next season there didn’t go to plan.
He may well become a good manager but he needs to almost start again in the Championship - think taking on any PL job will be too demanding and unforgiving on him at the moment. |  | | |

I think a huge huge part of being a manager nowadays is that desire and work ethic.
He clearly was a brilliant manager and did a proper job with Rangers but does he have the fight and desire for a PL relegation battle? No.
He recently admitted he is currently enjoying a more stress-free work-life balance and time with his family and with them being in Liverpool, I just don't think that will mesh with the always on, forward thinking, relentless nature of our club at the moment.
Ashton will want someone with something to prove, someone who wants to embed themselves in the community.
