According to our information, Etta Eyong Karl is at the center of a bidding war between several clubs. Ipswich Town has already submitted an offer of €20 million plus €3 million in bonuses to Levante UD.
Meanwhile, Everton FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC are ready to immediately trigger his €40 million release clause in an attempt to outmaneuver the competition. The final decision, however, will rest with the Cameroonian striker, who will have the last word on his next destination.

So we've offered 20m Euros + 3m Bonus, when he has a 40m Euro release clause which Everton and Spurs are willing to match...righty-o...

We can probably compete on the financial package, as he is likely to be our main centre forward option, so his decision is likely to come down to playing in Europe, liklihood of staying up & game time.
Neither Everton nor Spurs will be in Europe this season, so no issue there.
Both are, however, significantly more likely to stay up this season, than a newly promoted side. The thing with agents & contracts now though, as we have seen with Delap, is that clauses are inserted to 'protect' the player, as well as the club, in the event of relegation, so he could be off for a less onerous fee than if we stay up. So while we are certainly less appealing in this area, it should not be a deal breaker as playing in the PL this season will be his main aim.
Which takes us to game time, which is surely our 'ace in the hole', so to speak; we will definitely be offering him for more PL minutes this season than either of the other two. If he believes in himself to the level of expectation of one day playing for a top English side playing in the Champions League, he will first want to demonstrate his ability at PL level. He will get that opportunity with us, & the example of Delap from 2 seasons ago will have shown him that the route is there if he performs well enough.

Sounds a bit club/agent led there.

"Yes, we've received your offer, but loads of other clubs have said they'll just trigger the option at €40m."

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Lots of red flags in the report, for us to be in the bidding we have to offer 40m regardless!

Exactly my reaction.

I also find it unlikely that a player bought for €3M 9 months ago has a €40M release clause in his contract. ‘Biding war’ may well be an illusionary agent led situation.

My only worry with this, if the report *is* true, is that we would still seem to be shopping in the same pool of targets as last time.

If the likes of Spurs and Everton are in for our targets, we won't be landing them.

We won’t be matching those established PL clubs wrt wages. Kieran Maguire on the EADT pointed out that last time we were in the PL the club with the lowest wage budget who hadn’t just been promoted (Brentford) we’re paying their squad twice as much as we were.

If we offered €20 million, I can’t see Everton or Spurs offering the€40 million straight off the bat either. Why would you ? If they know he can probably be gotten cheaper? I think a lot of that report is trying to big the player up by his agent and the club anyway. Probably clubs been put into the mix to try and attract others.

His goal record doesn't shout €40 million unless he is an assist monster?

Tho it is at the club's discretion as to whether they enforce the 40m Euro threshold. If they want/need to sell, nothing stopping them accepting lower offers. Depends how genuine the Everton and Spurs interest really is and whether they think he's worth that much.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I'm no transfer expert and what goes around on social media is usually made up by someone and often way off the mark . The amount of Cash up front can often be the deciding factor or so I have been told .
