| WC refereeing 21:16 - Jun 21 with 992 views | LeoMuff | Got to say it’s been a total breath of fresh air, almost no soft fouls or tactical fouls given, play keeps on going on while the guy writhing around eventually realises play will carry on without him and up he hops to sprint off, great stuff. | |

Spanish player rolls around, realised his team still has possession and no foul given, suddenly rises from the dead like Lazarus and sprints into the box. It's so simple. If you ignore the antics, they will go away! [Post edited 21 Jun 21:53]

The only thing missing is the subsequent booking for unsporting behaviour in those circumstances. That would then eradicate it entirely.

But this Bel vs Iran one is taking it to extremes. Iranian right-back just raked his studs down the back of Trossard's calf, ripping his sock and leaving two columns of heavy bruising. Not even a booking!

Iran are getting nothing. The red just now though was on the harsh side and Lukaku shouldnt be on the pitch. Scotland pen on McGinn was a disgraceful decision. But mostly they seem to be erring on not falling for soft stuff which is good.

Yeah, Scotland pen was nailed on for McGinn, but Mctominay one not a pen.

Or if refs in this country continue to want to blow up for a bit of contact every 30 seconds, can we " borrow " the World Cup refs? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Have seen a few odd inconsistencies with what is and isn't a foul. Some right crunchers seem to be let go and some that seem nowhere near as bad are pulled up. All in all though, the officiating has been really decent.

Or will they make a big song and dance about it at the start of the season only to revert back to normal by October? Hard not to feel cynical but it would make club football much more watchable.

Strange, isn't it? Gone are the days when the backward monocultural English had one way of playing football and embarrassed themselves on the global scale. The Premier League of course has players of almost all nationalities and backgrounds, and is stacked full of wonderful talent from all over. So why do they behave themselves so much better when on international duty? Is it particular coaches making a decision that others felt they had to go along with, in order to compete?

Agreed, but it seems that in England referees feel pressurised into stopping play when the home crowd are all whistling and booing when a home player is laying on the ground. 99% of injuries do not require immediate treatment.
