| I was wondering, part 1 14:34 - Jun 25 with 1375 views | The_Flashing_Smile | With these transfer deals that have been a fair way down the line before the manager was announced, how do we sell the project into players? I appreciate "Here's what your pay cheque will be" helps, but you'd still want to know who the manager is before entertaining the idea of an ITFC move. Or have they known for a while, before the official announcement? | |

We have got a good honest bunch with relatively few egos. Hopefully we will finish 17th. oh.....and training ground and some nice countryside.
| I was wondering, part 1 on 14:39 - Jun 25 with 1296 views | hype313 | Forgive my ignorance, I assume as a club, the transfers are decided by the recruitment team, Ashton and the manager, as opposed to just the recruitment team, which, as you say, does beg the question how did we sell the opportunity without a manager in situ? | |

Ideally we'd have a manager in place prior to these discussions, obviously, but whoever is appointed will not change the opportunity to play Premier League football." ?

Think a player would be ill-advised to sign a 2+ year contract with a club on the basis of who the manager is, most don't last that long. So yeah, imagine you sell it on the club size, club plans and the pay cheque.

| I was wondering, part 1 on 14:42 - Jun 25 with 1240 views | Len_Brennan | It would be an easier sell if had appointed Pep, but I'd imagine to most of our 'from around the world' targets, there is not going to be any difference between Gary O'Neill & Kieran McKenna; if anything, given his 2 survival years, O'Neill might provide greater incentive. The chance to play in the best league in the world and the pay that comes with it will be the main drivers. | |

I mean, yeah, that's probably all you can say, Hops. I suspect not all players will be happy with that, but I guess some must be if they're a fair way down the line in signing.

Also it depends on what Ashton means exactly by 'quite a way down the line'. Not as much as the phrase suggests I'd imagine.

"anyone who isn't just in it for the money" = all footballers.

Indeed. Getting players from across the globe to play in what is by far the richest league in the world is notoriously a really tough sell.

Which is probably 90+% of the player base so not sure it's that good a point. I also think that who the manager is probably has less impression on most players than might be often said on here. More of the cherry on top in many cases I expect.

You could also list the stadiums they'll be visiting to play in addition to Portman Road, and obviously emphasising that they won't be having to visit the hole that is Carrow Road...

That bit isn't, getting players who's aspirations match the club and won't settle for a bottom 3, is. In our last Premier League transfer window, the best we managed was Enciso, Palmer and Ben Godfrey and we were well within touching distance of staying up. We won't be having large numbers of class players begging to play here, a managers job is to be smart about who we do recruit and what the long term game plan is. People just after a Premier League pay day won't keep us up.

I had, mercifully, forgotten about Godfrey. What an odd signing that was.
